Calcium Blockers?

Is it true that caffeine and whole wheat blocks calcium absorptioin? If so, how long after you eat whole wheat can you take the calcium?

Also, does anyone know about acidosis' relationship to osteoporosis, i.e., unbalanced acid/alkaline?

In reading in he Holy Bible, wheat was a choice of food that was healthy then and I do believe it still is today. Ezekiel 4:9 tells us that wheat and barley, beans and lentils....etc.

I am eating my wheat. I am sure wheat was made in a different way back then but wheat I feel is fine to eat due to the Holy Bible. I have a list of foods the bible says to eat if you would like for me to write them down and give you scripture.

southernlady, i am very interested in what your shared about foods from the Bible..i was sick last winter and found jordan rubin's book..the makers diet and just tried to learn about eating from the Bible and just improving my health..

Hi All: Here's a short article on the topic you are discussing. I would look further though to find a clinical study that proves this hypothesis, from the NIH (Nat Institute of Health), NOF, Mayo Clinic, ASBMR (Amer Soc of Bone and Mineral Research), or some institution along those lines with good credentials.

Good Luck...

Hi gang!

I don't see any discourse on caffiene. Is it true that coffee and tea are blocking my calcium?

By the way, I found the biblical references interesting. I am also a celiac (and Lutheran), so can't partake of the host - or anything else containing wheat, barley, or rye. About 1% of the population is actually intolerant to gluten, so somewhere between the old testament and now, humankind has gotten genetically hosed up.

I really don't want to give up caffiene entirely, since I still have to drive ;~)

Tom

Tom,
If you put caffeine in the search box (and make sure you spell it correctly), a post will come up that was posted very recently by the NOF staff regarding calcium.

Peggy

Thank you Peggy for that great tip, and also the help with that spelling. I fell for that old rule that said i before e, except after c. Doesn't always work, but I believed my teachers back then.

I was really happy to learn that carbonated drinks do NOT harm the bones. Amazing the rumors one picks up on the web these days. Now I can enjoy my favorite Vernor's Ginger Ale again. Of course the water was good too.

Tom

hello,

unfortunately I have sever osteopenia and i have been doing so many studying to stop my problem.

i have no idea about whole wheat and calcium absorbance and I have not seen any where.

about cafeine. it increase acidity of your blood and it cause you blood takes calcuim from your bone to alkalize the blood. if you like i have many books and reference that help you to understand the nature of foods and corercts your diet.

I hope all of us get rid of this problem.

yours,

I've seen Dr. Susan Brown's book, "Better Bones, Better Body", that includes acid/alkaline balance information, but the NOF literature doesn't say anything about it. I haven't found any info on the web related to medical studies about it, only "natural medicine" web sites promoting an alkaline diet and associated products. I plan to ask my rheumatologist about it next month.
