Boniva use

0 Recommendations

I am concerned since I am using Boniva 1/month for a few years now. Hysterctomy 47, 58 now.
I have a friend who takes it as well, but when she fell in her house and broke her femur, her Dr told her that even though she had strong new bone structure AROUND the femur, the inside part of her bone was extremely brittle! After extensive surgery to insert pin, plus 5 weeks of rehab. she's still in a wheel chair.
What to do????!!!!
Clinical trials yielded contradicting results.
Any thouhgts out there?
Thanks ladies, and/or gentlemen

Cancer Surgery Pain Boniva Falls Forteo Stomach cancer

I had Hysterctomy at age 27, now 49. I had one serious life threatening fall and had small broken bones in other falls. I tried actenol, but due to severe bone/joint/muscle pain, I went off it. Doc suggested I would have same problem with other oestro meds. Since that time and the problems with oestro meds, I have decided talking high levels of Calcium/D is only good solution for treatment

Dear really:

Thanks for the response. What is the dose of Ca + D that you take?

Thanks,
s

I take 4 of the 600mg Calcium plus D daily

thank you
i'll do that until I see an endocrinologist
be well

I take Bonviva, the first 6 months showed a sharp delcine, the next 6 months ..no change. I will have another DEXA at the end of this year.

I take, as well as Bonviva

Calcium (absorbed amount 500mg) + 400 IU's of Vit D.....twice a day (1,000mg and 800 in total) This is a combined tablet, dissolved in water.

Magnessium.. 200mg..twice a day (400 in total)

Vit K 10mg a day

Multi vitamin

Potassium (tomato juice).

Gishy

Dear Gishy, You have only reinforced my decision about Boniva use. I took one Boniva a few weeks ago after being taken off Forteo (only a 2 year med and i had been taking it way too long) and weeks later I am still having reflux problems even though I did everything as instructed. I do not care it this miracle drug takes out the trash and does windows, I am never taking it or any biophosphanate by mouth again!!! I wonder if Sally Field really takes it or just puts on perky for some big bucks. I am waiting for a decision from my oral surgeon about the safety of stronger doses of Boniva via injection or iv. I have extensive dental rehab work in my mouth that I would not like to lose.

Hello Caremanager

Jaw bone problems can occur with IV Biophosphanates, however these are rare and normally associated with poor oral condition.

Oddly enough, I had Stomach Cancer and my stomach is mainly scar tissue, but I have no problem at all with reflux etc..

Just goes to show how different we are.. and.. we are our own best Advocates. If we are not happy to take a drug, DON'T take it.

For me, the most important thing is the next DEXA. I'll let you know.

Gishy.

Bumping up.
