Bones are hurting

0 Recommendations

I was diagnosed with osteopenia 4 years ago at the age of 52. I have had both knees totally replaced due to degenerative arthritis. The first replacement was at the age of 48 and the 2nd at the age of 51. I tried all the medicaitons, but the side effects were horrendus. I was started on Forteo in April 2009 and have gained a whopping 32 pounds! I was placed on this medication after breaking my femur right above the knee. Tripped on a hole in the pavement and landed on a concrete parking barrier. I was told that the bone was so bad with osteoperosis that it looked like melted butter. A plate, 10 screws on the first surgery and a bone graph and internal bone stimulator on the 2nd surgery. 14 months of non weight bearing and loads of physical therapy. Does anyone out there have a plan that works to keep from gaining weight while on this medication, or at least to keep from gaining more.

Hi JMT816:
Some medications really drive the appetite centers. It may be a difficult request. Why don't you contact me at bebonestrong@sequoiahealth.com and we can talk about this further.

Take care,
Woody
