Bisphosphonates: Bone Strengtheners or Bone Hardeners?

1 Recommendation

The title of this discussion is the title of an article in The Townsend Letter, July 2009, by Lane Lenard, PhD.
about latest disturbing reports on bisphonates. I wanted to quote the article, but cannot find it on the net. If you go into www.townsendletter.com you'll find the site and may want to subscribe. The magazine is inexpensive and very helpful.

Hi Jacqueline,

Thanks. Those are interesting Articles.
Are those Magazines, or news letters, and how many page in each if there magazine?

I could not find the article you where talking about!

Take Care,
April

This is a magazine. It has 120 pages and is mailed to me monthly. The July issue has not been put in there yet.
One of the things the article says is: "even though bone strength appears to increase due to Fosamax treatment, in fact, use of this patented medicine has been associated with a 20% reduction in bone toughness (that is, its ability to endure bending pressure without breaking.)"

There are many other harrowing findings in the article. The e-mail address of the author is:
llenard@optonline.net. His phone number is
609-273-7305. His fax number is 619-330-3523.

If anyone finds this article online eventually and can give us a link to it, that would be great. I'd like to read it but don't want to subscribe to the publication. Thank you!

As in the alternative health article says "even though bone strength appears to increase due to Fosamax treatment, in fact, use of this patented medicine has been associated with a 20% reduction in bone toughness". This is one of the many, real issues here, debated as well within "main line" medicine. Until such issues are resolved through more research; the use of such medications should be constrain to treat only those cases of severe osteoporosis.

Today to many health care providers are jumping on the bandwagon -- with the help of drug company representatives- to treat patients such as those only showing signs of osteopenia with very strong and largely very experimental medications.

Jaqueline,

Thank you for the info. about the magazine..

It seems to me, Drs. believe more of what the Drug sales people say, then how there Clients react to the Meds!
What they all learned in Med School is now OUT Dated.
Yes they go to big learning/Teaching events, but I think allot of those are also run by the Drug Co.!

Our Dr. friend called me up a few months back to ask what was going on with Reclast..I sometimes email him some of the side effects I read about on the net and here..
Go Figure!!!

April
