Bioidentical hormones

0 Recommendations

I am 61... I was on Fosamax for over 8 years...no growth but things stayed sort of the same. Then I had a couple of fractures and the DR suggest Forteo. I did it for 18 months and had a loss of 2% !!! Needless to say I am not taking that anymore.
I am checking out everything I can find. BioIdentical
Hormones have been suggested to me but by the local health store person. She seems to have a lot of knowledge about the subject....BUT... has anyone on this list had luck with the hormones... Remember I am over 60...
Suggestions please....
Thanks
Victoria

Bumping

Hi
I'm glad you are having strong results ! I have a couple of questions. I've been on bio identical hormones for 9 months now.. But I was on activella
( Plant hormone) before that, so I can't see any dramatic diff.yet. I had blood test and saliva test first.. and my md has gradually been increasing my Test.
level.
What are the strengths of YOUR rx ?
and
do you know about this urine test you can do at home ?
I have to wait for bone density tests every two years and I think that's nuts
I recently abandoned Fosamax and am in confusion about what to do next. thanks

huessysignoret,

There are no restrictions about sharing brands on this site that I am aware of. We do it all the time to help each other.

Naming brands is a violation only if one is trying to sell them or otherwise profit from their sale. Recently, I saw two people trying to market their product on this site. It was quite obvious they were sales reps.

You can use personal emails if you prefer, but it is not required.

I have not met her but will try to... she sounds like a very interesting person....

Hola Victoria, thank you. Her name is Monica Hoth von der Meden. She does puppet plays for kids, she creates her own puppets. She is mexican. Have you met her?
Muchos saludos, Martina

Dear Osteochick -- I just ordered K2, and will be taking it on its own. I don't think I'm supposed to be sharing brands with you on this site, so email me at psimon45@gmail.com, and I'll tell you what kind of multi-vitamin I take. I had a hysterectomy at 47, and on doctor's orders, "for my bones," took Premarin for about a decade; stopped when the horror studies came out. Despite both Premarin and Fosamax, my score got worse, not better. Please feel free to email me. I think the multi-vitamin is a good one.

meant femoral neck

Huessysignoret,
THanks for the reply. Do you take K2 on its own, what brand multi-vitamin/mineral do you take?

I take cal/mag/vit d2/boron and then I have recently added 1,000mg of extra vit d3, for a total of 2,000mg per day.

I walk 3-4 miles at least six days a week, try to lift some light weights. Seeing dr tomorrow. The endocrinologist I went to was not a lot of help. I also have thyroid issues, Hashimotos, so I am not sure about Denosumab.

My hip is really pretty good, barely osteopenia, but femoral hip is -2.4 and my spine is -4. Not very big, never have been. 113 pounds.

How long have you been on the patch and did you ever take any other type of estrogen?

I will try prunes again, with all the magnesium, I duuno. :0

Walking helps me to "chill".

Dear Osteochick - I don't know anyone who's tried Menostar (I never heard of it before.) No side effects from the Climara patch. Hip score -2.4. They can't tell about my back because of hardware inserted following surgery. No one ever checked my neck. I do well on narcotics, but have had horrible experiences with most other drugs. Fosamax caused intense pain and loosened my bottom teeth. Pain with Boniva; deep depression with Evista. I'll be 64 in Oct. I take 50,000 units of D3 by prescription once every two weeks. Take K2 and a multi-vitamin/mineral (6 caplets, twice daily.) I try for an alkaline diet (although some docs scoff.) I have gut problems (two surgeries for blockages) so take psyllium husk caps (no mixing, measuring, or mess), magnesium (good for calcium absorption) and prunes (some people think they actually reverse osteoporosis); eat leafy greens daily, plus lots of fruits and other vegetables; and take an excellent probiotic (containing more than just acidophophilis (sp??). Exercise (30-40 mins. daily) with treadmill, stretchy bands, balance dome, wall slides holding weights. I'm hoping Denosumab, out in October, turns out to be a good drug I can tolerate. And above all, I try not to worry,

The above questions were for you Huessysignorent. I since read your bio, which answered some of the questions. I am 58, with severe osteoporosis, have tried fosamax and forteo and had severe sx to both. I don't know what to do now. My body reacts badly to all drugs

Do you know of anyone who has ever used Menostar? Do you have any side effects from the patch? How old are you? What are your t scores? I hope you don't mind answering these questions. Thank you so much.

Alli -- my sister, following Dr. Lee, definitely uses both the estrogen (the .025 Climara dosage patch) and progesterone cream. I think I would be violating protocol to tell you where to get the cream, but if you want to email me, I'll be glad to share the information: psimon45@gmail.com

Tell her to go to Moonrise on Organos near Quebrada... and talk to the owner (an american) She can tell her everything you need.
Who is your cousin?
Victoria

Hola Victoria, thanks for your reply. We have a cousin living in San Miguel, she could get the things for me and send them.
Do you know if there is a testosterone cream for women and if so, how they call it? What are the names for the progesterone and the estradiol?
What is the name of the store?

I am sorry to be a pain, but it is so difficult to get infos at the end of the world...

Thank you so much, Martina

Bonelady,
That is what I had read in several places... BIOIDENTICAL does not mean natural... it means it is manufactured from plants to have the same cell structure as our body hormones.... It is still PRODUCED... I have thought about the patch........ but that still goes in your system...
So hard to know the right answer....
Victoria

Medscape recently published a Q&A session with James A. Simon, M.D. about bioidentical vs. synthetic hormones. Here is one question and answer from that dialog:

Medscape: What are the risks and benefits of bioidentical hormone treatment compared with conventional hormone therapy?

Dr. Simon: The FDA, in all of the class labeling for conventional hormone therapy, has stated specifically that, in the absence of information to the contrary, all hormone products (ie, bioidenticals) are assumed to have the same risk as conventional therapies. While there is some information that suggests safety advantages of nonoral hormone therapy compared with oral hormone therapy as it relates to thrombosis risks, these benefits have not been demonstrated to date by compounded products.

Alli -- the lowest dosage estrogen patch is .025. My pharmacy had to order it especially for me, because no one else was using it. Apparently, though, Dr. Lee is very clear on this: estrogen and progesterone must go together, like a horse and carriage. I'm not sure I mentioned this -- when my sister first started this regime was before the DEXA scan was available. However, since then, her bone mass density has continued to improve with each scan. She exercises, eats an alkaline diet, takes vitamins but the biggie is the bioidentical hormones, with the progesterone cream being essential, even though she's had a hysterectomy. That's pretty much my story, too, but for years I was a couch potato and (gasp! choke!) a smoker. How could I have been so stupid???? (The truth -- I was a lawyer, so I was a nervous wreck.)

Huessy thanks for info.. the reason I asked is because i use the progesterone cream but no estrogen. Like you i did use the estrogen pills but with the famous study and breast cancer decided against them. It is great that your sister has good bone density. I will check out the low dosage patch tho when i go to doctor.

Alli- my sister uses both estrogen and progesterone. I believe Dr. Lee felt the combination was essential. Of course, the estrogen worries me about breast cancer, but the horror tests (which made me quit Premarin cold turkey) were with synthetic pills. I use Climara, a a bioidentical patch you stick on your lower tummy for a week, and I use the lowest dose available -- .025. The arguments rage on about whether it makes any difference if a hormone is bioidentical; my conclusion (which I admit could be wrong) is that bioidentical is safer. I also think anything used externally, like the patch and the cream, are safer than substances going through your digestive system. It's definitely a weighing of risk/benefit. I'm still interested in Denosumab. If it's not something that causes pain as a side effect, I want to consider it seriously.

Heussey when you say your sister is following Dr John Lee's program is it the natural progesterone only or estrogen with it?
