Beware: Phytoestrogens are not estrogen

0 Recommendations

Those considering using natural progesterone cream, pursuant to theories advanced by the late Dr. John Lee, need to be aware not only that the progesterone must be used in conjunction with natural estrogen, but also that phytoestrogens, sometimes marketed as if they were estrogen, are NOT estrogen. They are plant-based supplements that MAY act like estrogen, but they really don't do the same thing. For example, people taking phytoestrogens will not show an increased blood level of estrogen. Additionally, we are exposed to phytoestrogens in our daily life, and it's simply unknown whether an additional dose would be, in effect, an overdose. Progesterone is available in a non-prescription cream at a dosage of 2000mg USP, or by prescription at higher doses, compounded by your pharmacist. As far as I can find out, estrogen is available only by prescription, and supplement stores that sell you a cream of natural progesterone combines with phytoestrogens are NOT giving you both hormones. So, be careful!
