Wondering if anyone is taking the Citracal plus bone builder that has the genestein and your feedback
Exercise Acid reflux Boniva Polyethylene glycol Nexium GERD Fosamax Reclast Synthroid Constipation Actonel Osteoporosis
I just began taking it, my rheumatologist recommended it. I am taking it along with prescription vitamin D and daily exercise. I am trying to avoid the other meds since I had a bad reaction a bisphosphanate. I won't know for a year whether it works, sorry!
I just started also but was concerned that it did not have Vit D3. It states just Vit D. I am also taking an extra Vit D3 as well.
Here are the ingredients for Citracal Bone Density Builder, the vitamin D is D3:
INGREDIENTS:
Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Citrate, Polyethylene Glycol, Magnesium Oxide, Croscarmellose Sodium, Genistein (Soy Isoflavone), Manganese Gluconate, Hypromellose, Titanium Dioxide (color), Zinc Oxide, Magnesium Silicate, Copper Gluconate, Molybdenum Amino Acid Chelate, Sodium Borate, Magnesium Stearate, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).
thank you strirun and ejoyce .. surprised calcium carbonate was listed must be a small percent also wondering do you have any effects like GI problems as I have acid reflux
I have been taking one tablet a day of the new citrate plus bone builder for just a week. I was concerned that it contains calcium carbonate since I have had problems with constipation when I was taking calcium carbonate before. I switched to calcium citrate and had no problems. Hoping there is a small percentage of the carbonate in the new citrate.
I just had my pharmacist order the Citracal Plus Bone Density Builder for me. I will pick it up next week and start it. I have Citracal Plus now. I am trying to take 4 tablets a day and haven't had much success with taking it. I am trying to train myself into a new habit so that I don't forget it. I take two tablets with lunch and two tablets with supper. I don't take it at breakfast because I take my thyroid pill in the morning. I am hoping I succeed at making it a habit. After 12 years of taking Fosamax, I decided to take a holiday and stop taking it. I hope I am doing the right thing for my bones.
Hi PGreen,
I also take thyroid meds and your schedule is the same as mine with one expection. Since I already had a large bottle of multi-vitamins for women 50+ I take 2 citracal Plus Bone Builder at lunch and one at dinner with a multi vitamin which contains 400mg calcium and 800 D3 and 250mg of magnesium. That gives me 1300 mg of calcium and 1400 of D3. I was tested vitamin D deficient so I am not worried about taking a little extra.
Hi,
I just want to say, I take D3 2000, twice aday=4000iu aday, plus Calcium and allot of other Vits.
My Calcium levels and D where up and fine.
So I wonder why I have Osteoporosis!!
Although I'm very small boned.
I have taken Citracal for years, and I do not think it has done me any good. I do not take it anymore.
Have you checked out a better Calcium at a good health food store? Not the one that is in the mall either!
I have found Calcium and most vitimins from the drug store etc., are really not good. They do not obsorb very good, and have fillers in them. Although most Drs. say, just go to your drug store!
Take Care,
April
Hi April,
The Citracal recommended by my Rhuematologist, Bone Denisity Builder, contains Genistein (Soy Isoflavone), he was inpressed with clinical trials. I appreciate the lack of side effects.
ejoyce
I have been taking Citracal plus bone Density Builder with Genistein, for 3 months, 4 tablets a day, as directed. I was delighted that it not give me GERD. Recently, I am experiencing hypersalivation (excessive saliva) which my Dr. believes maybe from the additives i.e. copper added to supplements. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?
hint. Whenever you have a question about a supplement, eg. is the Vit. D 2 or 3, just call the company. They have people who answer these questions. it may be that you are paying extra for something you don't need. Sometimes they send you a bottle too LOL
Also, it is a good idea to google what ever you are taking and the word toxicity. Too much of anything is not necessarily helping you, even Vit. D3.
I was taking fosteum which is a medical food product for the management of osteo...it contains geinstein aglycone (27 mg) zinc bisglycinate (20 mg) and cholecalciferol (200 iu)..i had such hope..and it made me sick to my stomach,,veru nauseaus..i take synthroid every morning, followed by nexium , followed by librax for IBS..had my calicum level checked, and it was in the 30 range and the dr gave me 50,000 vit d pill, once a week for 6 weeks ,,i took it although it made me sick..so, this is why i never tried the citracal with genestein..i take citracal with vitd and mag and 1000 vit d3 pill..due to my stomach and acid reflux problems, i couldnt tolerate thr actonel or the fozamax , boniva was out of question and reclast is a very large dose at one time..forteo ??? and then what? i seem to be very sensitive to all these drugs..cant live in fear anymore, just try to be careful and do the best i can and take ot one day at a time..
from my experience calcium +vitamin d and magnesium is more effective
I take a liquid CAL/MAG/VIT D and boron supplement by NOW. Has anyone taken it?
I don't take the liquid, but I do take Bone Strength by NOW. Is the calium in liquid form better? I heard somewhere that it is absorbed easier. amir1966 it is important to get the right amounts of calcium, magnesium and especially Vit D. Good luck.
Liquid works better for me. Taste good, easy to get down and has a calming effect. Citrate works best for me.
