i am a 33 year old female. i have a fractured tibia of my left foot and was found to have osteoporosis thru dxa.my pth, ionized calcium and thyroid panel was within the normal range.we had a family history of osteoporosis, renal and thyroid diseases. i was advised by my endocrinologist to take fosavance. but i put that on hold for now because i also would want to know what benefits and side effects i would get from such medication considering im still at the premenopausal stage.i would welcome suggestions or comments.thank you very much and god bless!

Twiggy,
I was diagnosed at the age of 33 with osteoporosis. I am now 45. I have been on Fosamax for 12 years now and have not gone through menopause yet either. I saw an endocrinologist and no cause was found for my osteo. For me, and I just recently saw another endocrinologist because of my concerns of the side effects of Fosamax that have in the news recently, the doctor told me my risk for fracture far outweighed the risk of side effects. Because I have been on it for so many years it is not likely that I will develop osteonecrosis of the jaw or other problems. I used to have acid reflux on the daily dose and the once weekly dose but since switching to Fosamax +D a few years I have not had the acid reflux at all. In the 12 years my scores have gone from -2.5 to -1.2.
