Blood test shows bones within normal range for a 67 year young male. Doctor recommends to further strengthen them, take Vitamin D3 and calcium supplement(s), in addition to normal food intake. Questions:
Is 400 IU ok for Vit D3 daily?
Is 500 mg ok for calcium daily?
On calcium is there a preference - citrate or carbonate?
Does magnesium help with the above two or is it neutral?

You should first have you vitamin D level checked. Your correct vitamin D intake will depend on a number of factors. I suggest Dr. Cannell’s site and recommendations for vitamin D. They are top notch www.vitamindcouncil.org.

Hi. !000 of D3 and 1200 of cal citrate should do the trick. Congrats on good bones. :) BG

I believe you should take 2000 units of Vitamin D3 for not only your bones, but for your heart, brain, cancer prevention, etc. I take 8,000 units myself in an effort to decalcify my aortic heart valve and prevent having my second open heart surgery to replace it. There are other elements that can build bones, potassium citrate, boron, vitamin K1 and K2, boron, copper, magnesium, iprilflavone,etc.

Calcium citrate or Calcium lactate (powder) were recommended to me - supposed to be more easily absorbed & Dr. had positive results with these. Also, magnesium, manganese & D3, but the amount you take should depend on the levels that you have & need, according to a blood test.

Have your D levels tested. My husband, who is healthy otherwise, had his tested in September. It was 24ng, which is WAY too low. So he is supplementing D in a effort to get those levels up. We are using the per pound recommendations in THE VITAMIN CURE to measure the amount of the supplementation with D3. Measure first. Then supplement. Measure again in 3 or 4 months.
