Urgent! Can I take morning after pill if I have high risk HPV?

0 Recommendations

Does anyone know if there's any side effect of taking morning after pill (Emergency contraception) if I have HPV? I've heard birth control pill is pretty bad so I wonder if the morning after pill is that bad too or even worse?

If anyone knows anything, please drop me a line asap since I have to take the pill within 72 hours.

Thank you

By the way, my period cycle is about 40 days. And we had sex only 3 days after my period finished, do I actually need to take the pill??

i would suggest you talk with your doctor as to whether taking the emergency contraceptive is appropriate and needed. and we have to weigh our options....i would think an unplanned pregnancy could be a much more significant impact on your life than a dose of the medicine which may or may not have an impact on your ability to fight off an active hpv infection.

Hi Smileface -- I realize this comment is probably coming too late, but I would guess a one-time dose of morning after pill would have virtually 0 effect on an HPV infection. In most of the studies, it's the long-term usage of birth control pills, 5+ years - 10+ years that impacts risk relative to HPV, not short-term use (less than 5 years). So if you went ahead with it, I wouldn't worry about it impacting your chances of clearing an HPV infection. I have read that women who use pads instead of tampons have a higher rate of clearance of HPV (that was just one study, though, so you can take it with a grain of salt). Of course, doing all the usual immune-boosting things (lots of fresh fruits & vegetables, adequate rest and exercise, reduce stress, etc.) all contribute to clearing an infection. Also -- early on in an infection, it might be helpful to use condoms to speed clearance of HPV/lesions -- again -- that was just two studies -- by the same researcher -- so you can use your own best judgment. Condoms may also reduce rates of transmission of new HPV infections by as much as 50-70%. (They're not 100% because they don't cover all areas that might be affected by HPV.)
Good luck!

Hi thank you again for your replies. I eventually didn't take the pill. I just thought it'd be impossible since my normal period cycle is about 40 days. Before that accident I just decided to take a hormone test.
