0 Recommendations

i have my hysterectomy last year of july hysterectomy stage 1b1 adenocarcinoma. Last month my tumor marker scc increases and after 2 weeks another blood test was done and again it increases but very slight. Does anyone experience like this does it mean recurrence? i have no chemo and radiation because my lymp nodes were free from cancer.

Hi Irene1. I don't have any idea what a tumor marker is, because I've just begun my treatment. I just wanted to respond to you and let you know that I'm thinking of you and I hope your doing OK. Have you talked with your doctor about what this means?

I would insist on a Pet Scan. I had a radical hysterectomy, stage 1b2 adenocarcinoma in 2003. No chemo or radiation were given because the nodules came back negative. That was a big mistake!!!! It came back 3 years later and now I am fighting for my life.

The National Cancer Institute has definitions for tumor markers. There isn't one for cervical cancer per se, so it can not be used for diagnosis, but my chemo oncologist does use one to tell (after, in my case, radical hyst., internal & external rads, mets, and now chemo) through this blood test whether the tumors are increasing or decreasing. This is something the test can do, but it is not a substitute for CAT/PET scans.
