OKAY LADIES!! I have sent 2 e-mails to Dr.Oz(the Oprah show) its been months and have heard nothing from either of them. So several days ago, I posted on the "health message board" again asking Oprah to do something educational about cervical cancer. It finally showed up today.

I'm asking all of you (if you are interested) and post a message. maybe if enough of us ask, we will get their attention!!

go to Oprah's page, "health" then womens health.
Its down about half way and its under " what people are talking about"

I titled it "HPV & ITS DESTRUCTION!

Please help get the message to Oprah!

Thanks! Oprah should know that CC is NOT always preventable AND has devastating effects. No one sees or talks about the loss of fertility or the fact that people do die from this disease. Most importantly, it is NOT just those who neglect to get screened who get this!

Perhaps she can help with the shame factor involved with this form of cancer. Public attitude is just about as harmful as the virus itself.

I"m contributed to you Oprah post. Thanks for bring it my attention. We all have a different approach but the same message. As you said, it would be wonderful to have more of us to contribute to this post. I'm sure something will come of it.

Thanks everyone! Yes you are right that we also need to deal with the shame of this as well. there are many "threads" to this topic. I just hoping to get something started. Oprah seems to carry a LOT of CLOUT! I'm hoping that by starting this conversation, drawing attention to this problem we can get some education out there.

Oprah is usually pretty good at covering all aspects of an issue. Myself as an "older" patient don't face the same issues as the younger, child bearing age woman. The "shame" and embarrassment of the whole idea-----even though there is such a huge number of people "infected". the fact that our "tried & true" PAP smear is ineffective in detecting cervical cancer. the other issues of oral & anal cancers.

We could go on & on---but those of us here on this site--------KNOW OR ARE LEARNING! But what about the millions of others who don't know! I didn't have a clue!!

anyway----thanks everyone! Pass the word---maybe we can get some action out of Oprah!!

you also need to send them a comment under contact us..if you'd like them to consider this subject as a topic. so i invite you to email them as well as posting a message.

i'm in. I will use whatever clout I have to get something started...p.s. I don't have much clout...LOL

Saw the Harpo comment back to you to post it under "be on the show" Are you going to do that? I think it would be amazing for her to do a show on HPV - just watched today a recorded episode from Christina Applegate and her fight against breast cancer... getting the word out is powerful!! Thanks for the info and the push for Oprah to consider:)

I posted for the idea...i dont want to meet oprah this way. but i encourage others to post as well. i heard that if she gets tonnes of mail on something it becomes a show. but if we all don't do our part then we're just gabbing/spinning wheels. we have a chance to make a different. the power of now.

I will put my two cents in, we all need to. That is the only way anything will ever happen!

Joann5454,

I want you to know that 3 years ago I was diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer and had surgery at Stanford. Since then I have e-mailed Oprah, Montel, dr. Phil and everyone else i can think of. I did get contacted by the Montel williams show but his show was cancelled. I have never heard anything from Oprah. I will post at her sight and I am proud to. I really think if evry women wa to join together we can change how this cancer is looked at and we will move mountains.

Maybe we should email Liz ________ (the clothing designer who has a maternaty line at Target)? Perhaps if she was also interested in talking to Oprah, we would have more luck getting Oprah's attention?

Good morning to everyone. thank you all for your support. The "thread" at Oprah did draw attention from the staff. they posted a note that we should go "be on the show" and send an e-mail to the producers & Oprah. So------ I did that. that was probably on Thursday. Haven't heard anything yet.

I was limited to 2000 words. So I tried to get as much in as I could, hopefully to draw attention to this problem.

So---------any other suggestions?? OR would some of you like to do the same---------- You have to join "Oprah's site" and then post under "be on the show"

Hopefully we will get some action here.

great idea. We need to take control and take the away the shame this carries......
