Hi everyone,
I just went to the gyn yesterday..and they said that my hpv is really bad and spreading...
And becouse im only 16, they don't know what to do.
My gyn said he doesn't want to cut it out b/c im 16 and doesn't want to take the risk of me not being able to get pregnate...and he said now I really have to worry about this turning into cancer
Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do?

Thanks for sharing your story.
Its helped me relax a bit
I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. But I was just told its like the worse pain ever.

I haven't had my colpo done yet
The doctor is just taking his sweet ass time.
He told me that he's really worried for how bad it it, but yet he won't do anything.

The thing is
He is my second opinion
Im probally going to have to go for a third one

I have another appointment with him in 2 weeks (on may 7th) and hopfully then he will say he's gonna do something and start making all these appointments for me
I found out about the hpv in october of 2008.

And nobody ever did anything they alway said that its going to go away on its own , but it hasn't ,its only gotten worse.

My OBGYN
Said that it looks so bad that its probally going to have pre cancerous cells...
Im gonna try not to freak out about that b/c he hasn't even gotten the results yet so im going to try to relax till then.

I just want this to be done with.
Of course I do so would anyone else.

But my doctor doesn't see to realize that.

Im tryin to watch what I eat and excercise to keep try and get my immune system strong...
Let it buld
Latly its been down, been sick, stressed...so im trying.

i just wanted to let u know im 18 and was in the same boat i would take all there advice and get a second opinion..i didnt read all the other entries so sorry if you have to repeat yourself.i was told i had hpv about a month or so ago my first abnormal pap. in was freaked out just like you but trust me theres nothin to worry about unless its close to being cancer. i had severe pre cancer cells that got caught just in time..the colpos. doesnt hurt. i have low pain tolerance and never had crampin during period and all it felt like was cramping..the biopsy was lil more bad cramps but not nothin. i worked mysoef up alot n was freaked and it wasnt to bad..the bleedin after wards suked for me..well after my colp. they sed i need to get it removed and just cause ur young doesnt mean u cant have kids...if anything ur age wold help id think. you bein young and wit good immune system(i assume ur healthy otherwise) would help you heal nicely and still be able to have kids...you wanna find out how its spreadin (how bad) cause the sooner the better. just mond. i had my "area" cleaned out and all that felt like was my colp. but lil more cramp and the needle they used to numb only stung for a min. like i sed everyone i kno knows i dont like pain and all this was a breeze now that i look bak. i only have 3 percent chance it will come bak cuz i got it taken care of so soon n quik so listen to everyone get a sescond opinion and find out how bad it is...you wanna catch it now...let me know if you have nething else..i just got thru it all soits fresh in my head...allstargirl111@hotmail.com if u wanna email private

Ok I'll check it out
Thanks a lot for all the help

and, here are the guidelines of what should be done with women your age....there are some significant differences than how an older woman would be treated:
http://www.aafp.org/afp/20061015/practice.html

as you'll see, a lot depends upon the results of your pap smear, biopsies, etc.

hope that helps.

Ok thank you I'll check out the site

Yes my aunt is supposrtive

And my doctor said that there is absolutly no treatment... for it :(

I'll check out that site
And also I'll see how the gyn is that my aunt told me about.

hi, again, psychomonkey. here's a website for the american college of obstetrician and gynecologists, and you can search online or call them to ask for assistance in finding a gynecologist in your area.
http://www.acog.org/index.cfm

it sounds like your aunt is being supportive, and that's a great thing to have. hopefully you'll soon be able to get more information and a better understanding of what's going on, including your options for treatment.

Hi flowershoplady,
And thank you for the advice.

Well I just got done taking to my aunt because she had it, I asked what I should do
So she said after my next appointment which is in 2 weeks...if he doesn't do anything that I should go to a different gyno..she gave me the name of the one she went to and she said he's really good...
So im gonna try him

I don't know of any female gynos and I don't know where to look...
Sense I am doing this by myself...maybe my gyno will give me somebody...a female...

And im not even sure of what questions to ask
My doctor said he doesn't know what to do because of my age(16)

He said its really bad that I gonna worry about it turning into cancer he's saying this with out the results and he doesn't want to do anything and he said that's there's no treatment...
So im kinda confused on what to do...

But one again thanks for the advice
I really appreciate it :)

hi, psychomonkey. i'm sorry to hear you're dealing with all this, and it's disappointing that your mother isn't supportive, but, unfortunately, many of us don't have the understanding type mothers we would wish for. it sounds like you're a fairly independent and strong young woman, and you should expect for your doctor to treat you respectfully, sharing all the information you need and want. and, if your doctor is uncertain as to what to do, ask him/her who you should see who won't be uncertain. as others have posted, you'll want to find out if you have only the low risk hpv strains that can cause genital warts or if you also have high risk strains that can potentially cause cancer. many women have multiple strains. and, yes, there are treatments for genital warts. have you thought about seeing if there's a female gynecologist to see? you might find a woman more supportive, perhaps? and, some gynecologists specialize in treating younger women, so that might be something to look into. it might mean you've got to make some phone calls and ask questions. also, you're very welcome to be on this message board, of course, but you should know that there are also some message boards that focus more on the hpv strains that cause genital warts (rather than dysplasia/cancer), and you may find some more answers there. hope you're soon able to get some answers and treatments! let us know how you're doing!

Ohh alright
I see

Doctors shouldn't judge at all
If they're in that postion then that's their job
And your doctor shouldn't go and assume things either.

This is my moms gyn too
Im not sure who delivered me tho lol
I know he delievered my little brother cuz she was at high risk with him

But yet he was almost 12 pounds and he was a "preme"

The biggest preme ever lol
And would always check up on my mom
Plus my 2 sisters goes to him as well
And they all said he was good
My step sister had HPV and he was with her thru out the whole pregnacy cuz she was at high risk cuz of the hpv...well it was removed but that's what it was from...

That's good that your mom was understanding

My mom never took me to get the gardical shot like shewas suppose to
I told her a million times to take me and so did the gyn but she never did
I had to get it by myself.

I didn't tell my mom about it
She found my referal for an appointment to go get checked out and it was all suppose to be confidential.
I went to have a girls night out and she went snooping around in my stuff
Then she called me a whore and won't trust me for nothing
She didn't even go with me to my appointments
My mom lied to the family and said that I have a tumor.
Not hpv.

Your right I have to focus on my health
But I do know for sure who I got it from...
Cuz it happened before the guy and it was only a girl before then...

I was told that at least 80% of woman get HPV at some point in their life
So that kinda made feel some what better cuz its so common...
And this person was really assuring me..

Can it really take that long to come out?

I thought it was a year the most that it will take to show...

But damnn in their 50's
That's crazy...

My doctor made the comments that I wrote above..I was a little offended by the celibacy comment..but I think he was just caught off guard bc my fiance was with me..It wasn't the first time they've met but my doctor tends to forget people, lol..Unfortunately (or fortunately...it depends on how you look @ it..) My gyno was my mom's obgyn & he delivered me...I was a high risk birth...he also caught my mom's breast cancer before it was too late..

Yes, HPV is RAMPANT in young women..

your doctor has no right to judge you, but they do...just brush off his dirty look...and brush off your mom's worrying about where you go it from..you will NEVER know...you got it from either sex partner..and who knows which one that is..and who knows if they'll ever know..

i was scared to tell my mom too..but she's a bit more understanding--im an adult, etc..we were discussing how my doctor thinks i got it before i got the gardasil shot or it's a different strain..& we both agree whatever strain it is--I probably got when I was in hs...I had a boyfriend who wasn't really faithful & slept with a TON of people..but who knows, I could've gotten it from my fiance!

Focus on getting healthy not where it came from..cuz you'll NEVER know..

and ps...women who have been married for years and are in their 50's are just finding out they have this...and they may have gotten it at 15!- that's what the wonderful nurse @ my dr.'s office told me.. =)

I have a lot of piercings too...
Also surface piercings :)
No tattoos yet tho

Im gonna be sure to take some sort of pain killers before I go..
Which I have a huge migrane so I need to see if I can find something now

And ugh I hate cramps :(
Lol

But o well I guess there's nothing I can do about it

Your doctor is screwed up
Putting you down and making rude comments...
What did he say if you don't mind me asking

Do you know when your gonna get your results?
I hope for the best for you

My doctor told me that condoms do not protect against HPV,at all.

My doctor said ppl my age usually get around -___-

He won't believe that I've only been with one guy and he gave me a dirty look cuz I wasn't in a relationship with him
He was just my friend

But I've also been with a girl

Which is where I got the HPV from

The number one person that puts me down about it is my mother
She looks at me in such disgust and she's more worried about where I got it from then me actually having it

Hi Pyschomonkey...

I just want to quickly say that I won't lie to you..I'm 21, I have had over 11 piercings (most of them surface piercings..) and have 8 tattoos including one that covers 1/4 of my back...The biopsies hurt for like 30 seconds then it's over with...no bs...they DO hurt initially..then you may or may not have cramps..I had like mini cramps that last for a split second & then went away..tylenol was my hero that day..here i am 2 days later..still crampy a little bit..but not as bad!

yes as chamomile said..take tylenol or aleve or whatever pain reliever you can take 1/2 hr before your procedure..i think that it helps with the cramping afterword--not so much with the initial biopsy pain...remember to bring a pad or ask your dr for one, cuz you'll spot a little bit afterwords for a few days..

btw, pathology reports are when they study the cells in labs! ;) (not the webster definition..but you get the jist.)

& as chamomile said..don't let your doctor down talk you..mine tried to tell me that condoms prevent hpv 100% & I should be celibate...I laughed and said you know I'm engaged..and we're monogamous- SAVE IT. lmao..I was a bit disturbed that he thought condoms were 100% safe, but hey he's the one board certified...

Don't sweat the colposcopy...it's not a big deal..when it was finished I was pissed bc it hurt & my doctor made a few rude comments..but I was happy it was over..& not as anxious anymore..

now im just waiting for results...and praying I don't have severe dysplasia or cancer.

Ohh,
Ok

Thanks...

The colposcopy is where they take a magnified look at the cervix. They apply a vinegar solution to make suspicious arrears more visible. Based on what the see, they may do a few "punch biopsies". They take a few very small samples of tissue. It more like a small pinch of tissue.

Good luck.

Ok I'll remmeber to do that
Thank you

Exactly what do they do in the biopsy?
Just slice a piece off?

btw...take a few Advil an hour or so b/4 your appointment and it will help with the biopsy alot. It's really not that bad and it's over very quickly.

I heard by a lot of ppl that its the worse thing they have ever felt
But everyones pain tolerance is different.
I guess if I stay calm it won't be to bad...

Hmm ok l'll do that
And im gonna tell him to be straight up with me
Just b/c im young doesn't mean I can't handle the truth...

He's having me worried so much mean while he doesn't even know everything that is going on

Thanks a lot :)

Biopsies aren't that bad....they are more uncomfortable than anything and it feel like you have bad cramps at worst.

I've never heard of anyone being so worried that they don't want to do anything. Look up what you can on the subject (see the NCI guidelines on cervical cancer and hpv) and write down a list of questions for your next appointment. Doctors sometimes talk down to us, and it may be that he's not explaining everything b/c he thinks you're too young. Stand up for yourself and assure him that you want him to be direct and explain everything to you. Try not to panic, because it sounds like they don't really know much yet anyway.

Idk how he know he just said it.

He said a bunch of stuff
And I think he is just as confused as me.

But he is my second opinon...
Im gonna have to go for a third...
Most of the girls in my family go to him and they all said he's really good
That's why I went to him.

I guess when I go back in 2 weeks hopffuly I can get a better answer
