Hi everyone,
I just went to the gyn yesterday..and they said that my hpv is really bad and spreading...
And becouse im only 16, they don't know what to do.
My gyn said he doesn't want to cut it out b/c im 16 and doesn't want to take the risk of me not being able to get pregnate...and he said now I really have to worry about this turning into cancer
Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do?

Hi Psychomonkey917,

Just so I can better understand, do you have cervical dysplasia? Did your doc do a biopsy of your cervix? I'm asking this because the only way you can decide what's the best treatment is after knowing for sure your diagnosis.

Su

Hi Pyschomonkey..

First off...Have you had a colposcopy & biopsy yet? Do you know what your pap results are?

Honestly..If your doctor is telling you he doesn't know what to do..get copies of your medical history from his office & go get a second opinion..

Yes, you may be 16....but the treatments don't prevent you from being able to have children...hysterectomies would, but why couldn't you try treatment first?

Since you don't have cancer yet..he should look into treating this ASAP...Find another doctor who will treat you..

Su,
I have an appointment for the copo next month...but he said he's gonna try to get an ealier appointment...
He just did the pap test yeterday
I had another one done in febuary but they never gave me the results -____-

He told me to come back in 2 weeks to see if it has progressed and for the results of the pap

And he told me that there is no treatment for it
I just have to leave it.

Mandi,

I have an appointment for the copo next month
But he's gonna try to make an earlier appointment

Im gonna get the results in 2 weeks when I go back there

I had one done in febuary and never got the results

He told me he doesn't want to do anything and there is absolutly no treatment

He said I will have trouble getting pregnate if he does the leep procedure so he doesn't know what to do
...

Hey PyschoMokey..
Fyi you don't need to post twice..Su & I won't mid sharing the same response, lol! =)

Try not to freak out over this...I think you need to see another doctor & get a hold of what those results from the pap results were in Feb..

They might be apprehensive to do treatment on you bc your so young & dysplasia regresses most of the time..but still this is your health & don't screw around with it..

Having trouble getting pregnant in the future bc of leep only happens to a few women..I'm sure when the rest of the world wakes up today, you'll have more responses. ;)

On a more serious note if this is as bad as you say, no doctor should place your fertility in front of your life...believe me..I've read SO many stories on this forum from wonderful woman who have this ridiculous hpv...many women have leep & then go on to have children..even some who are told they probably won't be able to carry full term are give hope because of a cerilage (sp?..) or just a stitch that holds in place of the cervix..

When you go in 2 weeks, ask for copies of your pathology reports..these are important..listen to what your doctor says..then go home and find another provider tell them your story, make an appointment with them for a 2nd opinion & remember to take the pathology reports with you..

I can't imagine ANY doctor telling you that they wouldn't want to risk your fertility over you being alive..Come on now, which one is more important?

<3
Mandi.

Hi Psychomonkey,

If you have warts, there is treatment that can be done. The treatment won't guarantee the elimination of the virus, but it will reduce the infection - if I'm wrong, someone please correct me :)
You have the right to get a copy of your records. I'd encourage you to do so and try to find another doctor who will treat you, as Mandi said.
In the meantime, pay particular attention to your diet and life style and do whatever is possible to keep your immune system working at its best.
Did you try to get the results of the pap done in February? They have to tell you the results.

Hugs,

Su

and as Su said..GW can be treated...they may need to be treated several times before they are completely gone, or you may have them for life..those they can treat without even messing around with your ability to get pregnant.

Hi Psychomonkey,

How does your doctor know that it is "spreading" when he hasn't done a colp or biopsy? Do you know if he did an hpv test and whether it came back with high risk hpv or low risk? Low risk is what causes warts and generally does not lead to dysplasia or cancer. It is a very important distinction, although either can and should be treated immediately.

It sounds like your doctor is a bit confused. Take the advice that has been given and ask for copies of your lab reports, and make an appointment for a second opinion right away. If it is high risk with severe dysplasia (which is not as common at such a young age), you may want to see a gynocologic oncologist.

keep us posted.

Yes very true I can do that lol.

My first pap test was actaully in school...cuz they're with a hospital.

And they're the ones who didn't give me the results.

My mom told me that my gyn is really good.
So im gonna wait till my next appointment to see if I can get some more information

Then get a copy of my record
I really hate to sound stupid but I know absolutly nothing about any of this
Which probally why im freaking out so much
But what exactly is pathology?
My gyn said that if I have an healthy ammune system it the hpv should treat itself.
But that's until he did the pap and told me it was really bad
And that he's worried about
He's so worried that he won't do anything -___-

I think I am gonna go to somebody else but this was the second person to tell me that they don't want to do anything.

My aunt had hpv and had a kid afterwards and so did somebody else I knew but they both had trouble

But I rther make sure im healthy then worry about getting pregnate
Im in no rush to have kids anytime soon anyway.

I heard some wman screaming next door to me from a biopsy
Which im kinda scared to get it now :(
She just kept screaming and crying...

I asked for the results and they never gave it to me...some
Ppl are just a**wholes these days...

I was told by one person that its not that bad.
And he said it is
So which one is it

Im still really confused about everything
And my mom looks at me in disgust cuz of it ...
So that also bothers me.

And my gyn said there is no treatment for the GW
But sense you told me there is
Im gonna demand it lol.

And thanks for all the info and stuff

Idk how he know he just said it.

He said a bunch of stuff
And I think he is just as confused as me.

But he is my second opinon...
Im gonna have to go for a third...
Most of the girls in my family go to him and they all said he's really good
That's why I went to him.

I guess when I go back in 2 weeks hopffuly I can get a better answer

Biopsies aren't that bad....they are more uncomfortable than anything and it feel like you have bad cramps at worst.

I've never heard of anyone being so worried that they don't want to do anything. Look up what you can on the subject (see the NCI guidelines on cervical cancer and hpv) and write down a list of questions for your next appointment. Doctors sometimes talk down to us, and it may be that he's not explaining everything b/c he thinks you're too young. Stand up for yourself and assure him that you want him to be direct and explain everything to you. Try not to panic, because it sounds like they don't really know much yet anyway.

I heard by a lot of ppl that its the worse thing they have ever felt
But everyones pain tolerance is different.
I guess if I stay calm it won't be to bad...

Hmm ok l'll do that
And im gonna tell him to be straight up with me
Just b/c im young doesn't mean I can't handle the truth...

He's having me worried so much mean while he doesn't even know everything that is going on

Thanks a lot :)

btw...take a few Advil an hour or so b/4 your appointment and it will help with the biopsy alot. It's really not that bad and it's over very quickly.

Ok I'll remmeber to do that
Thank you

Exactly what do they do in the biopsy?
Just slice a piece off?

The colposcopy is where they take a magnified look at the cervix. They apply a vinegar solution to make suspicious arrears more visible. Based on what the see, they may do a few "punch biopsies". They take a few very small samples of tissue. It more like a small pinch of tissue.

Good luck.

Ohh,
Ok

Thanks...

Hi Pyschomonkey...

I just want to quickly say that I won't lie to you..I'm 21, I have had over 11 piercings (most of them surface piercings..) and have 8 tattoos including one that covers 1/4 of my back...The biopsies hurt for like 30 seconds then it's over with...no bs...they DO hurt initially..then you may or may not have cramps..I had like mini cramps that last for a split second & then went away..tylenol was my hero that day..here i am 2 days later..still crampy a little bit..but not as bad!

yes as chamomile said..take tylenol or aleve or whatever pain reliever you can take 1/2 hr before your procedure..i think that it helps with the cramping afterword--not so much with the initial biopsy pain...remember to bring a pad or ask your dr for one, cuz you'll spot a little bit afterwords for a few days..

btw, pathology reports are when they study the cells in labs! ;) (not the webster definition..but you get the jist.)

& as chamomile said..don't let your doctor down talk you..mine tried to tell me that condoms prevent hpv 100% & I should be celibate...I laughed and said you know I'm engaged..and we're monogamous- SAVE IT. lmao..I was a bit disturbed that he thought condoms were 100% safe, but hey he's the one board certified...

Don't sweat the colposcopy...it's not a big deal..when it was finished I was pissed bc it hurt & my doctor made a few rude comments..but I was happy it was over..& not as anxious anymore..

now im just waiting for results...and praying I don't have severe dysplasia or cancer.

I have a lot of piercings too...
Also surface piercings :)
No tattoos yet tho

Im gonna be sure to take some sort of pain killers before I go..
Which I have a huge migrane so I need to see if I can find something now

And ugh I hate cramps :(
Lol

But o well I guess there's nothing I can do about it

Your doctor is screwed up
Putting you down and making rude comments...
What did he say if you don't mind me asking

Do you know when your gonna get your results?
I hope for the best for you

My doctor told me that condoms do not protect against HPV,at all.

My doctor said ppl my age usually get around -___-

He won't believe that I've only been with one guy and he gave me a dirty look cuz I wasn't in a relationship with him
He was just my friend

But I've also been with a girl

Which is where I got the HPV from

The number one person that puts me down about it is my mother
She looks at me in such disgust and she's more worried about where I got it from then me actually having it

My doctor made the comments that I wrote above..I was a little offended by the celibacy comment..but I think he was just caught off guard bc my fiance was with me..It wasn't the first time they've met but my doctor tends to forget people, lol..Unfortunately (or fortunately...it depends on how you look @ it..) My gyno was my mom's obgyn & he delivered me...I was a high risk birth...he also caught my mom's breast cancer before it was too late..

Yes, HPV is RAMPANT in young women..

your doctor has no right to judge you, but they do...just brush off his dirty look...and brush off your mom's worrying about where you go it from..you will NEVER know...you got it from either sex partner..and who knows which one that is..and who knows if they'll ever know..

i was scared to tell my mom too..but she's a bit more understanding--im an adult, etc..we were discussing how my doctor thinks i got it before i got the gardasil shot or it's a different strain..& we both agree whatever strain it is--I probably got when I was in hs...I had a boyfriend who wasn't really faithful & slept with a TON of people..but who knows, I could've gotten it from my fiance!

Focus on getting healthy not where it came from..cuz you'll NEVER know..

and ps...women who have been married for years and are in their 50's are just finding out they have this...and they may have gotten it at 15!- that's what the wonderful nurse @ my dr.'s office told me.. =)
