Supplementation Schedule

3 Recommendations

I thought I would share with you, what i have been doing for the past 3 months after my initial diagnosis, with respect to nutritional supplementation.
I know I am not ok now, but I know I am much better. I know because my overall health is much better, my periods are back to normal and also painless, and because my skin looks better than it has in 10 years.

I would also like to know, if any of you have any good tips in nutrition that worked with you?

This is what I took (and some of it I am still taking, some of it I stopped for a while)

- organic wheatgrass every day first thing in the morning
- organic spirulina powder (for the extra beta carotene)
- 2 x tea spoons of curcum powder before my lunch
- Folic Acid 800 mg
- I season my salads with Flax Seed Oil for Omega Fatty Acids
- 1 x 1000 mg Vitamin C powder
- Colloidal Silver because it's antiviral / antibacterial
- In the first 3 months I took AHCC which is a combination of Chinese Medicine Mushrooms. During the time I took this, I could feel my cervix "working", especially at night. The product I took was called "immune assist" from Aloha medicinals:http://www.alohamedicinals.com/IACC_MGN3.htm these mushrooms are used in China for cancer treatment.

- Since about 2 weeks I started taking DIM from bioresponse.
- i don't smoke (although I admit I used to before), I don't drink (never did), and I drastically reduced my coffee intake. I now only drink one cup a day for breakfast.
- I drink green tea every day with fresh pieces of Ginger in it.
- I have also been zapping daily for one hour. (for those of you who are familiar with the Dr. Clark protocol)

I also found a blog of a lady who cured herself and I like to read her recipes. Maybe some of you know this blog: http://buellerskitchen.com/

So this is what i have been doing.
I am interested to know what you have been doing and if you saw an improvement.

Please share with me.
thanks.

Just be careful with the colloidal silver. You should really not take it for more than 10 days at a time. It can cause argyria. We do take it when we get colds, but not for prolonged periods of time. I also take cordyceps mushroom in these raw shakes that I make. Look into bee propolis & raw honey (if you're not allergic), aloe vera, turmeric, olive leaf & monolaurin too.

I'm very interested in natural ways people are looking to treat themselves. I'm interested to know how you came to take the wheatgrass, spurilina, folic etc., did someone prescribe to you? Was it a Naturopathic Doctor or did you self-prescribe from information on the internet? My doctor suggested Papillex, I've been taking this natural method for a few months, I'm hopeful. Do you know anything about it?

Best wishes,
jen

I started with wheatgrass spirulina etc. because i knew my body's PH was acidic (I did test), and because I knew that those two are hugely beneficial to anybody because they're full of Enzymes, minerals and vitamins.

I was talking to my chiropractor/acupuncturist who also does chinese medicine, etc today. He is so so learned in health and everything having to do with the body - all he does is treat his patients and read and research. A far as omega's go, he said the best things to take are from a company called Green pasture ( I have to Google it) -fermented cod liver oil and butter oil. These are the best quality oils you can get with the best forms of omega's, vitamins A and D.

Hi DIM,
You are taking an amazing array of supplements. You should also be supplementing with Folic Acid, Mixed Carotenoids and Selenium (there has been a lot of research on the correlation between low levels of these and HPV, you can view the research online - I read it on the page www.papillex.com). Spurilina contains high amounts of Vitamin A, but supplementing with Mixed Carotenoids is still worthwhile, in addition to Selenium, Folic Acid plus the supplements that you are already taking. You can either take these supplements individually, or take the supplement Papillex because it has 10 anti-HPV ingredients in one product, and it's worked for a lot of people. One more thing, consider switching your Flax oil to Fish Oil that has high EPA/DHA content in it, because research now estimates that the conversion of Omega 3 from Flax into EPA/DHA is as low as 10% (and if you take fish oil with a high EPA/DHA concentration, then you are bypassing the required conversion, and getting 100% EPA/DHA (FYI...EPA/DHA is the part of Omega 3's that has all the benefits).

Thanks for the Papillex info.... anyone else successful with it? I had not heard of it until reading it here - thanks for sharing!!

Annie- re: fish oil - that is why my chiro told me to take fermented cod liver oil and butter oil as I wrote above :) He said that is the best thing to do.

My ND recommended for cervical dysplasia:

10mg folic acid
B-complex
Beta carotene drops (10 daily)
Vitamin A-Thuja-Lomatium suppositories

Also, a multi-vitamin & probiotic (for my IBS), fish oil with 1000 EPA (which has been impossible for me to find with that much EPA).

I also added:
selenium (I forget how much)
5mg Vitamin C powder
3mg coriolus versicolor (medicinal mushroom, immune booster)

In addition, I'm not drinking any alcohol, coffee only once or twice a week, green tea almost every day, & no soft drinks. I've cut way back on sugar of all kinds, especially refined sugar. The only thing I eat from a fast food restaurant is grilled chicken. I eat very little packaged/processed foods. I've cut way back on meat in general, especially red meat, and I'm eating tons more veggies than I used to eat. Some meals I go all veggie, no meat at all. I've been trying to buy everything local & organic whenever I can, and buying only meat & produce that's pesticide/hormone/antibiotic/GMO free. I'm also using pads instead of tampons & condoms with sex.

I started doing all of this 3-4 months ago. I had HGSIL paps in both Nov 08 (CIN 1 biopsy) and Feb 09. I just had a repeat pap last week & it was ASCUS!!

While I believe this improvement has to do with my diet & supplement regimen, my doctor--who is new for me & basically unaware of what I've been doing (the doctor who supported my natural treatment left the practice before I could ever see her)--wants to pursue a more "aggressive" treatment. I have an appointment this Wed to find out what exactly that means, but I can tell you I won't be getting a LEEP or cone based solely on an ASCUS pap smear. : )

congrats ashbar! you go girl!!!!

I have a tip for you if you don't like pads. I am using sea sponges since last jan, and it's wonderful. Natural and great alternative to tampons - plus they're very comfy.

This is mostly unrelated to DIM's post on supplements. I started DIM last summer. I took it for about 3 months. Right away my periods were always on time as usual, but decreased from 4 days to 2 at the most. I stopped taking DIM after 3 months. My periods have never been the same since. Very light. Not that that's a bad thing, but I don't trust this supplement. I'll never use it again and it did nothing to change my abnormal pap smears. I looked to see if clinical trial results were posted on the NIH website. The investigators have not posted a thing. I'm assuming because it regulates estrogen levels it affects menstrual flow. So if it decreases your estrogen levels too low, this could be one of the potential side effects. I'm just wondering if it could effect fertility.

DIM-Thanks! I just have a bad feeling that I'm going to have to fight with my doctor over my tx & get the "she's one of those people" lecture. Wouldn't be the first time though. ; )

I should clarify that I actually take 10 grams of folic (not 10mg). Also, I looked at my selenium this morning & it's 200mg of yeast-based selenium.

I'll have to try the sea sponges. Thanks for the suggestion!

tam1-I asked my ND about taking DIM and he wouldn't recommend it without me having a hormone screen first. He says DIM as a hormone regulator, like for menopausal women, not as a treatment for dysplasia, & doesn't prescibe it without a biological need for it (like uneven hormone levels). I also asked the woman who gave me the idea to treat this naturally about taking DIM and she said she treated her CIS without DIM. She followed Dr. Tori Hudson's protocol, which does not call for DIM. I'm not sure where the idea came about that DIM cures dysplasia, unless it's the fact that it contains the good stuff from cruciferous veggies. But then why not just eat the veggies? ; )

I'm glad you gals are writing this about DIM because I was going to try it - now I'm not so sure! Still waiting for my MMS which was originally shipped to the wrong address!!

DIM: that is so interesting...where in the world do you order sea sponges to use during periods instead of tampons?

we have a shop here from Japan that's called DAISO and they sell it. They are all natural and about the size of an egg and cost about 1 U$.
But you can order them online, worldwide. Just do some research - read here for example:
http://www.jadeandpearl.com/catalog/sea_pearls_how.php

Hi Ashbar,

Your ND is right, DIM has a direct effect on the hormone Estrogen and how it's metabolized.

Studies have been done on DIM and Sulphoraphane and HPV, and effectiveness has been evident. The benefits come from the cruciferous vegetable family, so eating a lot of broccoli sprouts/cauliflower/etc..would be helpful.

Hi, For those who take Papillex - do you take it on its own or do you still take a multi-vitamin or other supplements? Thanks, it seems to have a lot of the ingredients that people recommend for curing dysplasia. Also, is it better for absorption to take in one pill or individually or is that a stupid question. I am just learning about supplements!

AnnieGally - can you direct us to a website or medical journal that explains the effectiveness of DIM through studies. Perhaps DIM is effective for low or moderate dyplasia, but is it effective for persistent high grade dyplasia? Also it's my understanding it's difficult to get the required amount of cruciferous vegetables through diet alone to produce a therapeutic benefit which is the reason for the DIM supplements. Am I wrong about this? If so I'll just make sure I increase vegetable intake then.

tam, clinical trials can be found at www.clinicaltrials.gov - and you can search on diindolylmethane to read about the studies on DIM. I believe the studies have not been done with women who have CIN3, because most doctors would recommend that women with CIN3 have a leep or other surgery to remove the abnormal tissue. the women in the studies have/had CIN1 and CIN2. the studies use DIM in supplement form and thus eating the cruciferous vegetables isn't the same thing....but, for me, that's what i do, because i consider it more natural, even if it's not at the same higher levels as in the studies. you can take a look at www.dimfaq.com for more info on DIM and there's a link there to the clinical trials as well. hope that helps!

and, in a study, they would need to use a supplement form in order to have a controlled amount of the DIM.

flowershoplady - i saw the clinical trials using DIM on the website. they have not posted the results of the trial though which is what i meant above. i'll have to check again but i'm not sure if studies are still in progress or if the results just have not been posted. some of the websites i've been to regarding DIM say there are no side effects. this is not true. it's screwed up my periods bad. not that it really matters for me at this point given my situation. i think DIM can possibly offer a therapeutic benefit for someone with low grade or moderate dysplasia, but for persistent high grade dysplasia i'm not convinced of the therapeutic benefits.
