Scary Story about HPV

0 Recommendations

I was talking with my doctor the other day. We talk about HPV a lot given my history. He told me he saw a girl who came in with warts on her feet. Plantar warts are caused by HPV 1, 2, and 4. The scary thing was she had gotten them the "same time as her mother". They had both gone for pedicures and both ended up with plantar warts. Apparently, the soaking solution was never changed and they were able to contract the HPV virus from the warm footbath infected by a prior client. Scary stuff!

That is terrible! (and gross) It just makes you wonder what other tools aren't sterilized if they didn't even bother to change the water. That is outrageous.

Hi:

Plantar warts are very contagious and can also be caught from wet pool decks, showers etc. I bring my own manicure kit with me because there are so many types of infections you can catch from salons including nail funguses, bacterial infections and even HIV. I would recommend in making the investment if you do want to go to a salon for these treatments.

That is seriously disturbing, I stopped going to those nail joints after I got a fungus under one of my nails. I would rather have my short ugly nails and do my own pedicures than to end up with some horrible disease from one of these places!

Well you know they say that genital HPV affects skin and mucous membranes, typically in areas that are moist. I know they say that genital HPV cannot be contracted from things like hot tubs but after hearing this story I have to wonder.

I also wonder. I've had plantar warts - I had a whole crop of them on both feet, probably picked up from a public swimming pool, as I was doing a lot of swimming training at the time. I always wore shower shoes in the shower (usually I showered at home anyway) so i could only have got the warts from the swimming pool deck or the (chlorinated) water.

Apparently the virus invades tiny breaks in the skin and can be spread to different parts of the body by touching.

I really don't understand why genital HPV shouldn't spread the same way. I can see that a little more is required to get the virus all the way to the cervix, but hello people, we stick things in our vaginas all the time (tampons anyone?) without a full sterile scrub first.

I don't believe that I'm particularly hung up on HPV being sexually transmitted - I've had more than one sexual partner and although I've never had a positive HPV test I realise that it's overwhelmingly likely I've had it at some stage. I just don't understand the insistence that it can only be spread by sexual intercourse and not toilet seats, spas, saunas, swimming pools, hotel baths and so on, when other strains of the virus obviously can be spread like this.

All the more reason why the vaccine is so important.

Wow that is really freaky-----but I know my friend caught athletes foot from the pool bathroom...I always wear my shoes now. I've hung at pools for years and never had a problem. But I must say I totally think you can get HPV or anything from a hot tub. I heard that heat is an easy way for germs to stay alive--and c'mon hot tubs are so disgusting sitting in there with a bunch of strangers that might not even have bathed earlier. yuck-no thanks. I belong to a nice time-share resort in Vegas and I wont' go in those hot tubs. My husband gets in them and I just look at him and shake my head. He knows not to come near me til after he's showered majorily. lol! I know a little girl who got some freaky rare disease from the pool and ended up paralized for life. She lived down my street...they said it was the public pool water--and this was a nice upscale town I came from. But I'd steer clear of the hot tubs---I was up at another resort in Utah 3 years ago and I swear I caught some weird vaginal bacterial thing from that hot tub. I got in it cuz I had hurt my arm and the heat felt good. But I was the only one who went in that particular tub cuz it was too hot for anyone else. 3 Days later I have some bizarre infection that ended up making my clitoris irritated for about 6 months and strange feelings in my vagina. I had to take Flagyl which was horrible on the stomach and then I had stomach issues. So I won't go in a hot tub unless it's a personal friends at their house. And I'll never go in those romantic hotels like "Sybaris" that have the hot tubs in the bedrooms---like you can trust the maids to really disinfect those things after people have sex in them?

This is good information. I got nail fungas, from a nail salon and foot fungus.I have tried Lamisil for over 12 years and nothing works.I do not go to salons, ever again.I would love some advice on how to get rid of the fungus. It's just looks gross my yellow nail on my thumb, and one big toe nail yuck!
Thank you.

Something good to put on nail fungal infection is Vicks Vapor Rub. It works. Another good med is Nystatin that you use for babies when they have yeast in the diaper area. Both work very good at getting rid of nail fungal infections.

There is also a new laser treatment that cures it. I dont know the name of the laser but it suppossedly works and is of course much easier on your body then taking the medication.

BB

Another great cure for fungus is white vinegar soaks.
