Results getting more severe...

0 Recommendations

Hi All! I am a little scared, here's my history... Im 30 years old now, 7 years ago I had an abnormal pap after getting pregnant with low risk HPV, normal paps after, stopped having annuals in 2005, went back August 2009, I had an abnormal pap, some atypical cells with High Risk HPV, scheduled Colpo, Dr. said everything looked clear but did ECC (endocervical curretage) to be sure, but said 90% of the time those come out normal when the cervix is clear on colpo. Dr called last week stating that the ECC found Severe precancerous cells, dysplasia, she scheduled a LEEP and a conization. One for testing and the other for treatment.... I guess I am just worried since the more testing they do, the worse the results get! (although I am thankful for the testing!!) Is it possible that since the severity was in the cervical canal that I could have cancerous cells in my uterus?! I asked the Dr., that is when she informed that they would do the conization. I have been looking here since my HPV diagnosis, everyone seems informed and so helpful... Thanks so much!!

Hysterectomy Genital warts HPV Stress

hello, littlemomma. well, keep in mind a few things....low risk hpv doesn't progress to high risk hpv....they are two different groups of strains of hpv. low risk hpv strains can potentially cause genital warts and high risk strains can potentially cause dysplasia/cancer. and, your pap showing ascus and high risk hpv means that there were abnormalities with unknown significance.....unfortunately, the ecc showed that the abnormal pap was caused by the severe dysplasia. if you had had regular paps, then those might have shown a progression of the dysplasia leading to the current level of severe dysplasia. this shows the importance of additional testing with ascus or agc pap test results as well as the value of ecc's. hope all that makes sense.

and, are you having a leep and a conization? or maybe you're having a leep conization which is a conization using the leep technology? a conization can be done via leep technology or via cold knife(scalpel), and there are pros and cons to each of the methods. also, neither the leep nor the conization remove uterine tissue....these surgeries are on the cervix.

hope all that helps. let us know how you're doing!

Thanks for responding! The Dr said she would do a Leep and conization. I guess my concern is because the outside of the cervix was clear, unless she missed them, and the endocervix is where the severe dysplasia was, then could it extend to my uterus?

Your reply was helpful... and I am doing well, trying not to think about it until after the procedure... THANKS AGAIN!!!

Hi,,, Im going through the same thing,, dont worry about it,, I had severe dysplasia removed 4 years ago by conazation procedure... It was caused by hpv,, high risk... They also scraped my uterus and there was no cells found abnoral ther,, but I had them high inside my cerevix and they were severe,,,, but my pap came back normal after the conazation,,, You will be ok im praying for you let us know how things are going,,,, I just had my pap wednesday and im hoping for good news...

2kids, thanks so much for the info... that makes me feel much better about the outcome! And I did find out I am having a Leep Cone, so she is doing the conization with the Leep... Its so confusing!! But anyway, I will be praying for good news on your recent pap too!! I will let you know how things go on the 28th...

Im believing that everything will be ok,,, I know how scarry it is to find these things out,,,My gyn thought that I had hpv for 10 years before they found it,,, wow thats along time,,,i just thank god it hadn't spread into further margins...the conazation itself will help alot... all of mine came back was free and clear ...but its been 2 years since my last papsmear,,big mistake I know!!! but I pray this time will be good too... I'll remember you in my prayers,,,

2kids,

Please let us know what the results are for your pap. I will pray for it to be good news. I've had HPV for 5 years and it won't go away even after three leeps. I was researching tonight and found an article on conization. It looks scary and invasive but am wondering if it's worth it to be and feel healthy again. The article said 80% of women who have had it come back with clear pap results.

Let me know. It gives me hope. - Majesticwings

I think its worth it too,,, It isnt as bad as it looks well mine wasnt any ways,,, I was under anastesia (spellcheck) and i dont remember anything,,I just know that it messed my periods up afterwards thats the biggest thing right now,,, I still havent got my results back but Im hoping for good results,,, I think id rather have conization that a hysterectomy,,, and they said if mine comes back then that the next step... but so far so good !! it's just stressfull all the waiting and testing ....

Well, after 2 long months I finally had the Leep Cone yesterday. I had to reschedule the first appt due to my period starting later than usual (thanks to stress I'm sure). It was not too bad... the anesthesia was a bit painful, still a bit crampy, and zero bleeding yet. She did a 'top hat', which took off the top layer then another piece that extending into the endocervical canal. I'm playing the waiting game for the results. I should know by Thursday... she seems to think it will be fine and I won't be back for 4 months for a follow up pap! Thanks to everyone for their support! I will be praying for us all!

Am glad the procedure is over with and you made it through OK! Am also impressed that you will have results that soon. I had to wait almost three weeks, thinking worrisome thoughts the whole time...! Take care, and get some well-deserved rest!

Thanks for the kind thoughts dazednconfused... I actually got a call from the DR last night and she said she got it all, clear margins!! YEAH! I can't believe that you had to wait 3 weeks, 3 days was long enough for me! I think it's time to relax, stop stressing and try to boost my immune system so this stuff doesn't come back...
