Pregnancy with HPV,LEEP,PCOS

Hello all,

This is my first post and I just want to say I am very inspired by all the support and advice I have read through other posts on this site.

I guess I just need to vent about my personal situation and whatever feedback or advice anyone feels they would like to share would be appreciated!

I will be 21 years old on March 25th. I was diagnosed with HGSIL six months ago after an abnormal pap and a colposcopy. I had a LEEP done about a week after the colposcopy came back HGSIL. The sample from the LEEP confirmed CIN III with clean margins. What exactly is the difference between CIN III and Carcinoma in SITU? I have heard they are almost one in the same. Im am afraid that this will never go away since I am positive for HR HPV. My fear is I will continue to have LEEPs until they have to give me a hysterectomy. I would like to have children with my fiancee - I am scheduled for a follow up PAP on March 20th to see if anything has come back, and I am very anxious to get the results. I also plan on talking to my doctor about putting me on Clomid to aid in me conceiving since I am concerned that if I wait too long I will not be able to! I need the Clomid to conceive since I also have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Does any one else have both HPV and PCOS?

Hi Amanda -- Since your checkup will be about six months after your LEEP, I would urge you to also get an HPV test along with your pap. Oftentimes, a LEEP procedure will cause the active HPV infection to clear . A negative HPV test 6-12 months post-LEEP along with a normal pap is a good indication that there's no residual dysplasia. You're so young. Can you wait to try to conceive until the HPV infection is cleared and you're fully healed from the LEEP procedure?

CIN3 & carcinoma in situ are about the same thing. CIN3 corresponds to both severe dysplasia & carcinoma in situ, so CIN3 actually spans a slightly wider range of abnormalities.

will the leep procedure have any effect on high risk HPV ?

That is a good idea corellin - I will ask my doctor to also do a HPV test. Thanks for the advice! I just want to make sure I have a lot of talking points and questions ready when I go.

I had both AIS (adenocarcinoma in situ) and PCOS. I don't know if that will help you. I think you are looking for hope in being able to have kids.. and I haven't had any. I feel the same fear you do.

I feel for you, it is hard to have not one but two strikes against being able to have children.

I hope we both get the happy ending we wish for :)

Hi Amanda,
My name is Kelli and I have PCOS and HPV the one that has the cervial cancer strand, and I have become pregnant, I dont know how but I did. Right now I'm 6 weeks pregnant, and I didnt use any fertility drugs. I understand how fustrating things can be I have had PCOS since i was 13, I'm now 20 almost 21, I would talk to your doctor about clomid and hopefully it works, I know one thing that helped with my PCOS was losing wait and I know it's hard especailly with this. I don't know how long my pregancy will last I hope all nine months but, I also know its going to be a long hard road. Don't give up on having children I know it's hard right now and you have that fear of not having children at all but try to stay positive and talk to your doctor, but like I said try to stay positive in all situations, If you want to know anything or just want to talk let me know

Hi Amanda,
I have PCOS and have two children. I am divorced and got HPV after the divorce. I am now engaged and had a CIN2 with a LEEP. My oncologist said that there is no evidence that one LEEP procedure can cause risks in pregnancy. After 6 months of normal paps, My last pap came back abnormal. I asked the same question about having more children. My oncologist said that sooner was better rather than later. I know exactly how you feel and my heart goes out to you because it is so hard. We actually moved the wedding up in order to be able to have children together. I would speak to your fiance and doctor and come up with a plan. My dysplasia seems to come back quickly which is a problem, so I am afraid that it will lead to more LEEPs. There is evidence of second trimester miscarriages in women with multiple LEEPs. However, I have also heard of a procedure to stitch the cervix together to prevent this. Good luck and know my thoughts are with you!

Wow! I have been looking for a post like this one! I'm 25 years old. Just diagnosed with PCOS and HPV this year. What a year! I am currently 4 weeks post leep now. I have been visiting an Encronologist for testing, They thought I had Cushings instead of PCOS ( I have a small tumor on my pituitary gland). Anyway, I have the same concerns about having children. When I ask my doctors if I have a certain window of time, they both blow it off? I would like to have children in the future. Has anyone been told to concieve ASAP? I've been in a relationship with my current bf for going on three years. Not sure if marriage is in the future but want to have kids. I looked into freezing eggs but it's way too expensive. Should I see a ferilization specialist? Please share your experience. Oh, for the LEEP I had CIN II- clear margins and am just waiting for my follow up pap... Praying for a normal result. Any diet tips are welcome also. I gained thirty pounds in one year and haven't had a cycle since March 1st, 09- Tonight will be my first night taking PROMENTRIUM to induce a cycle... Help ladies!!! :)

Hi, I am 25 and just had my first LEEP for CIN3 last Monday. My doctor has told me to talk to my fiance about whether or not we want anymore kids and to push that process into now rather than later. We have one beautiful 18-month-old son and originally planned on one more baby but we are pretty terrified of the consequences since our first pregnancy was difficult. A lowered immune system can help aid in the growth of abnormal cells and our only real defense against the dysplasia is our health and immunity. In two years my pap went from abnormal with atypical cells to CIN3. The first pap with atypical cells was during my pregnancy. The pregnancy lowered my immune system as well as the nursing for a year after. I don't think I am willing to go through the pain and depression a miscarriage would bring and I really commend any woman willing to face that strife in order to have a baby. I am so thankful this all happened after my first child. I really hope the best for both of you. I would love updates on how pregnancy works out!

I'm 25 and after almost 2 years of infertility I was diagnosed with CIN III in Jan, had a LEEP done in Feb, diagnosed with PCOS in April, lost weight and changed my diet and in May I got pregnant. Unfortunately in Sept I lost my baby boy and the doctors say it was due to the LEEP. They recommended a cervical cerclage for the next pregnancy but that was something I knew very little about at the time. I have now done my homework and I’m defiantly going to demand closer attention next time around. They say that its not necessary for everyone with a LEEP to have it done but its defiantly worth a conversation with your Dr. Good luck to all of you I wish you the very best.

Thanks for your reply, and congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope all is well.

I hope you have had better luck with your PAPs coming back normal. My first two followups since the procedure have been normal. I quit smoking and I try to exercise and eat right now. My doctor told me thats the best thing I can do to fight off the infection. Thanks for your reply!

Boog -

I'm glad that my post hes relevance to your issue. My doctors blow off my concerns of pregnancy as well (ok, I am only 21 but I think they are valid concerns!) My doctor prescribed me prenatal vitamins to take daily because they are really good for you (and inexpensive if you have decent insurance) That seems to have helped. I too gained 30lbs within a year - I have since lost 16lbs just by being aware of my food choices at all times, and making time for a 10-15min walk every day. It seems to help. No pop, lots of water, vitamins, cinnamon in the morning is great for your metabolism. Stay away from processed carbs (get whole grain vs white) Kashi has some great frozen dinners that help when you dont have time to cook healthy. Try the book " You on a Diet" It helped me A LOT! Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Thanks for all your support ladies - sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I appreciate you all sharing your stories - it helps to know I am not the only one. My prayers and thoughts are with you all!! I have found the best way for me to combat this disease (PCOS) is through diet and exercise - and let me tell you it is a daily struggle! But I know in the long run it will be worth it. Plus, I've even got my fiance on the healthy kick. Don't let little set backs get you down ( I sometimes splurge on pizza or pop - old habits die hard!) Just make sure you take time to exercise and you'll be right back on track! Oh and my CINIII is no where to be found - still all normal! Im back on the yearly PAP schedule so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. Staying healthy boosts your immune system which boosts your chances of the HPV clearing on its own. As far as pregnancy, I started PROVERA to induce my cycle and I got what I thought were ovulation pains and ovulation bleeding -(I know PROVERA doesnt make you ovulate, but hoping my body will do it's thing on it's own!)- pregnancy test negative thus far. But will continue trying!! Hope you all are well!! Thanks again.
