Not healed from LEEP after TWO years?

0 Recommendations

In 2007, I had a LEEP proceedure done. I've had "clear" paps all the way up until this past April. The other day I went for a colposcopy and the doctor noted that my cervix still hasn't healed 100% from the 2 year old LEEP. She said it was strange and it made me panic a little. Her exact words were, "It looks like it would if I did the proceedure 6 months ago."

She also told me there is are a few inflamed areas but one spot in particular she is concerned with. So now I'm sitting. And waiting. And becoming paranoid... What does the lack of healing mean? What are the chances of having a 2nd LEEP proceedure? If I had clear paps for a year and a half, the odds are on my side right?

Any input would be appreciated. I'm a first time poster on here so I don't know how it works, but I've learned A LOT from reading the posts on here... possibly too mcuh that it's making my mind race :)

hi, turtletime. normal pap have the leep is a good sign....did you also have a negative hpv test? yes, continued inflammation isn't good....and hopefully your doctor can figure out why the cervix looks inflamed and offer ways to help it heal!

The latest pap came back negative for hpv, however, the doc said that it may have been a false negative based on what she saw during the colpo. So they're going to find out if it's "HPV or something else"... what else could it be?? That's the part that scared me. She needs to be more careful with her words haha.

I asked what I could do to help speed things along (no healing after 2 years worries me) and she gave me the "exercise, healthy diet, maybe take some vitamins" answer. I already do all of that so I guess I just hang in there. This site had some helpful tips (no doctor has ever told me to avoid tampons) so hopefully I'll learn even more! :)

vaginal inflammation can be caused by lots of 'benign' things such as soaps/detergents with fragrances and/or dyes, tampons, douches, and anything else that's going into the vagina!

That's good to know. I was just coming off of my period and was using tampons up until 24 hours before the colpo. Hmmm. Thanks so much for your reply. Putting it into perspective helped calm me down!

Hi Turtletime -- I developed endometriosis in my vagina and cervix that developed about 18 months after my LEEP, I also have inflammation and endometriosis in my endocervical canal. Maybe you're having a similar reaction to your LEEP procedure.

Possibly, your hpv test was negative because they were only testing for high risk types. Maybe a low risk strain is causing your current inflammation or dysplasia or whatever the doc saw?
