New decision after all these years

0 Recommendations

I had adenocarcinoma in situ and carcinoma in situ 18 years ago when I was 25. It was treated with a laser cone biopsy and I have not had an abnormal pap since. Here is my dilema now.....I have moved often in the last 18 years and have changed doctors often. The one thing I do recall my specialist saying at the time was that I would have to have a pap test every 6 months indefinitely. The doctors are telling me that annually is fine. I have had irregular periods for the last 4 years with increasing menstrual cramps and the dr I have now sent me to a gyno which I saw this week. He suspects that I have endometriosis which does not surprise me due to family history of it. We discussed the issue of my past history with the adenocarcinoma in situ and he says that it is recommended for hysterectomy once you have finished with child bearing (did not have any children/don't intend to now). I'm confused, other doctors have said that I have no worries since it has been 18 years now but the gyno explained that the adenocarcinoma is not as readily detected with paps. I was looking for an answer to the 6 month pap debate with the doctors as they say annually is fine and then I get hit with this decision and don't know what to do. Any opinions would be appreciated. I have been trying to do research on the subject too so that I do make an informed decision. Having a hysterectomy now would be a challenge for me so I need to make the best decision.

God bless you in your 'decisions'...I know you must be very confused and of course worried. I would first suggest a second opinion from an ONCOLOGIST/GYN...since they are MOST familar with Adenocarcinoma's...to give you peace of mind knowing you would be under a SPECIALISTS CARE. After hearing what an ONC/GYN has to say you may feel more confident in any decisions you make.

I'm sorry to hear you are having to go thru this at this time...you are in my heart and prayers.

HUGS to you!

I am sorry to hear your story.I am also experiencing the familiar story with AIS 6 months ago.
the lucky thing is my checkup result is good without HPV after conization. While the doc asked me to have a baby ASAP so that they can deal with my cervical easily......I guess it means they can do the hys.
What I thought is keep going and make my body healthy and try to avoid any surgery anymore. If my checkup result could keep the normal in the future I would never to the hys
