Before my diagnosis on September 30,2009, I was the inspiration, mentor and team motivator to all. I felt I had a great life with five daughters of which four are adopted and one is a six year old, a great boyfriend and an elderly grandmother of whom I am the primary caregiver. I have a great job where even at work I was the motherly figure to all. I now feel like I can't help anyone and am afraid to look ahead at my future in fear everything is going to fall apart. On Monday I begin chemo and radiation and I have no idea whats in front of me. I am trying to stay positive and my daughters have all stepped up to the plate. My boyfriend is very distant but hopefully he will come around. My oldest daughter Tiffany just said to me this is a test and I family will just get stronger.

Hi ShayT,
Just read your post I am sorry to hear of your troubles. Do you mind me asking about your situation? Is your diagnosis cervical cancer? I would love to hear your story.

Hugs and best wishes, shayt!
And I think your daughter is right. I think we are more strong and resilient than we think -- partly because we have no choice in the matter! Hang in there.

Sounds like you have a wonderful, wise daughter. I'm sure many of the ladies in here can support you if we knew what your diagnosis was. We're here to help!!

You will make it through for yourself and your family! I have not always considered myself the strongest person and I worry about my body being able to handle the stress and treatments....I have just finished week 2 and I am going to keep on going! Other people have made it and we will too! We will do it for our kids and our families and everyone that loves us!

Hope you're doing as well as can be expected with your stress level. Keep us posted on your progress because we really do care and feel concern. And feel free to vent any time you need to...we will make a point of being here with help and support on the harder days...focus on the light at the end of the tunnel, when this ordeal will finally be over for you! Warm hugs, M

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through all this treatment. My thoughts & prayers are with you.
I know what you mean about not being able to do the job you did before. I had to leave my "dream job" because of this beast. It was a high stress job where I had to prepare written reports & then present these reports before a 3 member board. And argue my case. Plus, I also managed a professional staff of 12 people. I was a member of the local Toastmasters & sat on a non-profit board where I had to help organize monthly sessions for the participants. But I loved all this!
In early 2008 I had a radical hysterectomy followed by chemo & radiation. I felt great 8 weeks after the hysterectomy but after chemo/radiation, I just can't stand any stress in my life.
But I am a lot older than you plus I also have other health issues.
They haven't suggested I go to a counselor but that may help in your case. I believe many of the doctors out there just don't understand the mental toll this disease takes on us. Recently I have read articles about trying to get the cancer docs to be more aware of their patients' mental needs. I hope the best for you. Please let us know how you are doing.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. Today I began my first of six treaments of Monday chemo(cisplatin) and radiation m-f as well as two-three implant radiation treaments.
I think my nervousness was what had me down but it was actually o.k. So far I feel fine alittle full from all of the liquids. I will keep you informed of my condition and treaments.

Yesterday I had my first chem-radiation treatment and so far I feel fine. I do have a headache and a feeling of fullness. Day to today.

Shayt:
Before you know it this will all be over & you can put it behind you & start living your life again. Things may be a little different but you have those wonderful 5 daughters to live for.
You & your family are in my thoughts & prayers.
