Menopause symptoms

I am almost two months post op Radical Hysterectomy. At week 3, I started having horrible hot flashes and night sweats. I finally talked with my Gyn about it. I have been taking 1mg of Estradiol for the last 2 weeks. It has helped with the symptoms, but I have gained 7 pounds!

I already struggle with my weight, so I cannot afford the extra pounds.. I would like to try more natural methods, but I am wondering if they really work, and if its worth spending a bunch of money to find out?

My co-pay on the Estradiol is only $1.00 for a month supply and the dietary supplements can be pretty pricey!

Has anyone tried Black Cohosh and Estroven?

I haven't had a hysterectomy, but when I started getting the hot flushes (not as severe as yours though) a friend told me that by eliminating wheat and dairy products from my diet the flushes should stop, as that worked for her.

So I tried it. It didn't happen overnight, but after about 3 months, I noticed a HUGE difference. I started thinking it could have been coincidental so after about another 3 months, I started back on my bread and dairy. Got the flushes back again, so stopped the wheat and dairy products again, and the flushes haven't been back. (I still don't each much bread now, and this all happened about 8 years ago.)

Everybody is different though....what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another.

Down side of all this....if it doesn't work for you, it is quite possible you could lose those 7 pounds!

Good luck with it all. Please let us know how you go.

my wife was supposed to start estradiol 3 days ago but will not for fear of weight gain even though she is the shell of the person she used to be before surgery.what do you guys think of our options or should she just take her medicine?
