STARLA.

Amy11: Yes, stress is said to contribute to HPV's strength; isn't that just ironic? I too just found out that I have a reaccurance of HPV. I was originally diagnosed when I was 22 (10 yrs ago) and I had mild-moderate displasia. I had intermittent paps done throughout the years; yearly for the past 5 years, and HPV just popped up again. They say there are only minor changes to the cervix though so displasia isn't even mild. I also forgot to ask them what strain of HPV it is that I have.

I too have been trying to figure out all the abbreviations the ladies use in this forum so I am sorry that I am of no help in that area.

You are doing the right thing by asking questions and getting yourself educated; keep it up!

STARLA: thanks for the food advice!

Many happy days to you all!

hi, amy. well....a couple of answers for you....different offices have different policies on getting your medical records....you may need to sign something....just give them a call and tell them you want a copy of your medical records and lab/pathology results, and what do you need to do to get them? they're your records! as for things to do to help your body clear the hpv infection: no smoking, DIM supplements (or eating cruciferous vegetables which contain DIM....such as kale, brussel sprouts, etc.), avoiding vaginal infection/inflammation (lots of ways to do that, including avoiding tampons), using condoms to avoid reinfection, and reducing stress.

bymyside, if you have an active hpv infection and haven't had one for many years, it could be due to a new exposure, or from the same hp virus you had many years ago. and remember that there are many strains of hpv, some of which are 'high risk' (can potentially cause cervical dysplasia/cancer) and some are 'low risk' (can potentially cause genital warts).

hope that helps!

Flowershoplady: My issue is I forgot to ask which strain that I had. I meant to...ugh. In another response to another young lady you mentioned using condoms as well. I found that to be informative as that was not expressed to me in my OB appointment. I had my tubes tied so my husband and I do not think of using condoms. I hate the idea of them as well; they cause me irratation in the netherregions. I also read somewhere else that if a swab/colp is taken of the cervix, it is only picking up the HPV on the cervix and not actually any surrounding area in the vagina, vulva, or anus? (In my opinion, even the throat should be swabbed!) If this is the case, why is the cervix the most popular for them to check for HPV? Why not check the surrounding vaginal walls, vulva, and anus if they have found it on the cervix? Would it not make sense that it could be in all those surrounding areas? How can we as a larger group make a difference in the areas that testing is done, especially with the fact that anal cancer is on the rise?

bymyside, condoms will help to prevent 'reinfection'....there are several discussion threads on this subject....just go to the search button and search on 'reinfection'....corellin has posted some research studies on this subject. as for the strain of hpv, many women still can't currently find out the specific strain type because there's limited access to the tests to do this, but the standard digene hpv test used in the u.s. will tell you if it's high risk or low risk. and, in response to your question about swabs, etc., the hpv test and pap smear only provide information for the area sampled. if it's the cervix, then you only get info about cervical health. a vaginal, vulvar, or anal smear or hpv test would each be separate tests for the separate areas. areas outside of the cervix are not routinely tested with paps (or hpv tests) .....however we all know that they also occur elsewhere, and that's why some women are taking extra steps to get additional testing done. hope that helps!

Hi bymyside!

I had an abnormal pap(one of them). My dr took the wait and see until the next appointment. At that time, he used the vinegar and colpos light and deemed no need for a re do pap. He SAW why it was abnormal. A small lesion on my vaginal wall. How the pap picked that up, who knows? Maybe the pap was abnormal and him seeing the lesion on the vag wall was just a fluke?

Hi I just had the laser and it was so easy I almost wonder if my dr really did anything? Was it painful after your procedure?

I heard that folic acid is another good vitamin to all the other things everyone had mentioned. Any help about the laser treatment would help.
