in november of 2008 i found that my pap came back abnormal. i went and found a gyn as we don't have them in my small town. i scheduled an appointment with her, went in and she did another pap. it came back abnormal and she told me i have hpv. she did a colposcopy and to this day i still can't get her on the phone to find out the results. i don't know what to do because i know of noone that has this. i'm not sexually active and the only reason that i have hpv is because my husband of 4 years slept around and gave it to me. i'm frusterated and don't know what to do. she told me i have displasia whatever that is. that is all i know about it because that is all she has told me.

I would suggest that you find another ob/gyn doc as soon as possible. You really don't want to mess around with this stuff. When you see the new doc, I am sure you will sign a release of records so they can find out your previous test results. Also, there is a wealth of information about abnormal pap results and dysplasia. Might be a little overwhelming since you don't know specifically what your results were. Please go see another doc! :-)

Good luck to you!
Deb

yeah I would find another doctor and find out exactly what your results are. Mine came back as severe dysplasia CIN III with HPV 16 strain and if not treated quickly can become cancer. I'm in the process of trying to get help since I've lost my job and insurance and it's really frustating. Find another doctor and get this checked out and find out what needs to be done. Wish you the best and I'm not trying to scare you but you need to know what's going on. Here's a good site I found that answered alot of questions for me.

i called them today and asked the results and all they kept telling me is that i have high risk hpv. i went and had a colposcopy but i still haven't been told anything else. i'm to the point where i'm just going to say hell with it and move on. it is so frusterating trying to talk to these people because they don't understand that it is my life that they are playing with. i feel so tired all of the time and it doesn't matter how much sleep i get. i have to wonder why we even bother.

hi, lisa. sorry you're so frustrated with getting your doctors to communicate to you about your health. you'll want to find out more specifically your pap smear results....'abnormal' can cover many things. here's a great explanation from the national cancer institute of abnormal pap smear results and what they mean:
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/detection/Pap-test

dysplasia means abnormal tissue, and it can be at different levels which indicate how extensive the abnormality is. these are call CIN (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) and are also described on the website link i provided above.

during the colposcopy, the doctor probably took biopsies, and these will be used to make a more specific diagnosis since the pap smear test is considered a screening. and, the next step will depend upon what was found during the biopsies.

if your doctor is not being responsive, ask for a copy of your medical records so that you can review them for yourself. in fact, ask for them even if the doctor is responsive! and, consider looking for another doctor, one who will provide you with the excellent medical care you need and deserve. you may have to travel a bit for it....and you're worth it.

hope this info is helpful for you....you've found a warm and supportive community with lots of info to help you through this.

they told me it came back cin 1 and that i had the high risk hpv.
