Having a LEEP done in 2 days..Im so nervous, any words of wisdom..
I found out a little over a month ago I needed to have a LEEP. I was a wreck for about a week and then the worries subsided.
I had my LEEP today and I was more nervous than I thought. I felt pretty confident going into the procedure, but my blood pressure said otherwise. The nurse said, "Are you nervous?" after taking my BP.
Then I sat in the room and when my GYN came in I lost it. I started crying because the nerves got the best of me. But, everyone was understanding and they started the procedure when I was ready. There was actually a medical student who was watching the procedure and she came to hold my hand and talk with me. I think this helped calm me down and kept my mind off of what was going on.
But, my GYN was great and talked me through the whole procedure. I took 600mg of motrin about 45 minutes before I was scheduled for the procedure. I had the local anesthesia done and I didn't feel anything. I know everyone is different, but I hope that you have the same positive experience as I did.
For me, the most uncomfortable part was the speculum. You shouldn't feel any sharp pain during the procedure and my GYN told me to tell him right away if I did.
Some women on this site have mentioned a "burning" smell. I did not experience this. They will put a sticky pad on you, they put it on the back of my thigh. This is to keep you grounded during the procedure.
After the procedure was over, I actually felt very good. I did feel a little dizzy, but that went away quickly for me. I thought to myself, the abnormal cells are out of me and I hope that it is all gone and they don't come back.
I think I was expecting to feel totally weird or different after having the procedure done...but I didn't. I basically just felt like I did after having a colposcopy/biopsy. I haven't had any cramps yet and I actually did some laundry and the dishes today.
So that was my procedure in a nutshell. I guess the hardest thing to realize is you won't really know how it is going to feel or how you are going to react until you actually have it done. Everyone can tell you about their experience and say it was painless, but then there are others who have had an unpleasant experience. Try not to get too wrapped up in reading all of these posts...at times it tended to overwhelm/stress me out, even more. Yes this site is quite helpful, but take some time to relax as much as possible, try to get some sleep and do things to keep your mind off this procedure.
Hope you have a smooth and painless procedure and all the worrying about it will be a thing of the past :)
I had a very positive LEEP too in July. I didn't have any pain. Your heart races and you feel a little shaky for a few seconds after they give you the anesthesia shot in your cervix (and that shot doesn't even hurt). I didn't experience any burning smells either. And I agree with Sparkles that the spectrum is the most uncomfortable part. And that isn't painful .. . just uncomfortable.
I was all scared and stressed before my LEEP, and once it was over, I said, "I wish I knew that it would be like this before I had it so I wouldn't have gotten so stressed out about it."
So try not to worry! :-)
