"It was just inflamation" How can I prevent it?

0 Recommendations

During my colposcopy last week, the doc was "concerned" about some spots and said it was "unusual" that my cervix had not healed 2 years after my LEEP.

I'm happy to say that on Monday I was told that, "It turned out to just be inflamation." After a happy dance and a sigh of relief, I asked myself, "What does that even MEAN?" (haha) From what I understand, it appeared to be dysplasia just by looking at it, but it wasn't (??). Is that about right?

In any event, I took all of this as a wake up call to take care of my body even more than I already do- Cut out the processed foods almost 100%, eating mostly organic vegetables, whole grains, lean meats... But I'm wondering, is there any way to "prevent" this inflamation or dysplasia in general? Are tampons no good EVER? or just not so soon after the colposcopy? Any tips are greatly suggested.

I heard that it is best to not use tampons because IF you do have an active HPV infection it can move the infection around to other spots on your cervix. I have completely cut out tampons. I also heard that you could have inflammation if you had sex the night before your pap.

I never knew this ie. tampon use and sex before abnormal pap. I can't even remember if I had sex before my abnormal pap. I will post what happens however. I probably did have sex the day before test. They never tell you that when you go for a pap. Not with me anyway. I had never heard of these things before this website.

larsmonty, here's some info about 'how to prepare for a pap test':
http://www.womenshealth.gov/faq/pap-test.cfm#pap10

"How do I prepare for a Pap test?
Many things can cause wrong test results by washing away or hiding abnormal cells of the cervix. So, doctors suggest that for 2 days before the test you avoid:

Douching
Using tampons
Using vaginal creams, suppositories, and medicines
Using vaginal deodorant sprays or powders
Having sex

Should I get a Pap test when I have my period?
No. Doctors suggest you schedule a Pap test when you do not have your period. The best time to be tested is 10 to 20 days after the first day of your last period."

hope that helps.

Just wanted to confirm a couple of things the ladies have already said :o) My ObGyn said no tampons ever, especially when you have an active HPV virus. She also said no douching. The reason for the no tampon uuse is that it rubs up against the cervix and causes it extra aggravation. Makes sense right? :o) The douching is because, if I remember correctly, is because it pushes bad cells back up. Which I suppose that makes sense as well. :o)

yep....preventing vaginal inflammation/infection would include avoiding tampons, avoiding soaps and products with dyes and fragrances (think about bath/shower soaps, detergent used on your panties, sanitary napkins, etc.), and douches can disrupt the vagina's normal balance.
