Is sex still painful after surgery?

0 Recommendations

I had a trachelectomy a year ago. I have had intercourse with my boyfriend very few times because penetration still hurts. I thought in the beginning, this would be normal, but a year later and it's still the same? I'm starting to wonder if this is the way it will be, with an altered vaginal canal....Anyone else have this problem?

don't have experience with that but have you told your docs?

I agree with Goliath, I would ask your doctors about this. Is it painful when they do a pap test?

Hi Coolio,
I had a trachelectomy on September 11 and have recently started having sex again. While it's not as good as it used to be (sadly), it doesn't cause me as much pain as it seems to be causing you. It feels different every time for me. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's uncomfortable. I find that it's better when I can get out of my head with thoughts like "Oh, I'm different now. It's going to hurt." When I can just lose myself in the moment, I enjoy it more. Of course, this isn't possible every time, but it helps in some cases. It's different, but I'm adjusting to it. I make sure to have sex with my boyfriend at least a few times a week, unless I have my monthly gift. For me, that's important to getting comfortable with doing it again, but of course, every body is different. We have been trying different positions and that is a huge part of understanding what feels good and what does not, and also using lubricant has helped a lot, too. I would recommend talking to your doctor to see if he or she has any suggestions for you. I think a large part of it is having the desire... do you want to be having sex or are you afraid? I go back and forth with that. Feel free to message me if you want to talk more!

Best wishes to you!
Erin

Hi Coolio

I had a trachelectomy on 24 September and started having sex about 4 weeks later. It was only uncomfortable (not really painful) until about 6-8 weeks after the operation. I would discuss it with your doctors. It may well be because of the shortening of the vaginal canal.
