0 Recommendations

I am confused what exactly is cin3. My dr. sent me a letter that said I need further tests. That I have severe high grade abnormal cells. I thought I was having the colposcopy only but a following letter gave me the information for a leep. I have tried to talk to the dr. but have been unsuccesful. Please offer me any me advice! I am afraid and thinking about skipping this procedure all together.

Hi Stella -- Here's a definition of CIN3 from a research paper and no, CIN3 is NOT cancer. It's a "pre-cancerous" condition which can sometimes clear up on its own without treatment, but which is most often removed with a procedure, such as a LEEP. Most often, a LEEP results in clearance of the underlying HPV infection as well as the CIN3.

I would suggest that before consenting to treatment, you get a copy of your medical records and fully understand your diagnosis -- did you just have an HSIL pap or do you have biopsy-confirmed CIN3 (which is what they find out with the colposcopy). Your doctor should full explain your options, the pros and cons of treatment and potential side effects before you consent to treatment.

Good luck to you!

"Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grade 3 is defined as disordered growth of more than two-thirds of the epithelial thickness... CIN 3 has an estimated spontaneous regression rate of 32% to 47%, but if untreated 12% to 36% of cases of CIN 3 progress to invasive cancer [1]."

NO.Please go to you'r apointment.i am going to keep you in my prayer's.GOD is with you.love story

I had CIN II and CIN III. I just had a LEEP a month ago and I feel it was the right decision for me. My LEEP came back with clear margins, so I go back in 5 months for a repeat PAP. I just feel good knowing that the dysplasia has been removed and hopefully will not return.

But, as Corelin said, CIN III is NOT cancer. My GYN said that the easiest way to describe it to patients is, "pre-cancerous", but it is still definitely just dysplasia.

Stella: I have been diagnosed w/severe cervical dysplasia (CIN III), too. Remember, this is pre-cancer.

Please do not skip this LEEP procedure. I have had two LEEPs. Both did not come back with clear margins, so my next procedure is a hysterectomy, and I'm totally fine with this.

i suggest the same pl. go i have cin3, had 2 leeps. had pap which came back not clear. i am going for hysterectomy nov 23.

I think I would rather ski it and go straight to the hysterectomy! For one thing I think the leep is a wait of time and I will not most likely keep up with follow ups. Secondly I keep having to miss appts. for the internal ultrasound because of bleeding and today the nurse said I can't do the leep if I am bleeding either. Well my bleeding rarly stops and I ever know when or if it will be for less then two weeks. And without the tests they dont know why I am bleeding and in so much pain! Think I need a diff dr. maybe. This has been going on since july. Thanks for your input!

which ever way u think is best and confortable for u. i suggest u see an oncologist for the bleeding and pain. take care.

Thanks again for the advice! I did speak to another dr. I have appt. with her next tues.
