hi, jayquin. i would encourage you to talk with your gynecologist again so that you can understand why he's recommending the procedures he's recommending and to find out if there are other options, pros and cons, risks, and so forth. a D&C is done for the uterine tissue vs cervical tissue, so you'll want to ask why he wants to do that along with a conization. also, ask why he's recommending the cold knife conization vs. leep conization.

here's info about D&C:
http://www.acog.org/publications/patient_education/bp062.cfm

hope that helps!

and, jayquin, did you already have a colposcopy? that would be the step after having an abnormal pap, to have the gynecologist take a better look at your cervix and take biopsies as needed to better indicate what's going on.

he told me cold knife was because my cervic is enlarged and d&c was to make sure he get everything. i was afraid of the leep but this makes me afraid and scared. I just want this to go away i lost my mom in 05 to cancer of the mouth and throat. I'm scare to death and i dont want to freak my sisters out to much. we all have been through so much in the last few years.I have always been healthy . still am everywhere else but down there I'm the strong one they think and so does my boyfriend. boyfriend has lost 2 family members in the last 2 yrs.I have lost 3 friends to cancer. Just scared. He called me back to tell me i will be having this done on june 9 . Just dont want to freak out anymore or stress out .I know my son is felling what is going on with me because he is freaking out him self and he is driving me crazy.

yes i had that done that is why i went to the gyno and that is what he went off of the path report ,that is what i gave him.first doc said i can wait about a year to see what will happen . i chose to go to the gyno. To see what he said. I guess i am thinking it is cancer ,he told me it is cin 3 severe dysplasia in cin 2 mod. on one part and cin 3 severe on the other one with something detaching gland clefts, then high dysplasia endocervical . he was talking things i have no clue on i hope some one here can tell me.

well, dysplasia is not cancer! and many cases of dysplasia won't even progress to cancer. but, of course, if you have CIN3, most doctors would highly recommend that you have the dysplasia removed. i would encourage you to talk further to your doctor. if he's suspecting cancer, then you should be seeing a gynecologic oncologist. and, as i posted above, the d and c is for the uterus, not the cervix. does he suspect something in the uterus? as he done a uterine biopsy or an ecc? and, i'm sorry that you're scared....all this can be very scary. you will get through it. keep asking questions and keep learning about both hpv and cervical dysplasia, including ways to help our body to clear the hpv.

Thank you !
No he said so much that i didnt catch everything . i will make a call to him in the morning and see if he can sit down with me . d&c is what is freaking me out so i guess i should ask him right .He did say we will do any steps that need to be done.

Jayquin,
I understand that this is a very trying and scary time, but I would listen to your doctor on this for sure. I have been down your road this year with the exact diagnosis and treatment suddestions. The cold knife "cone" & D&C are very informative. My cancerous cells were confined in the cervix only since I had clean margins from the cone but she did the D&C just to be certain that there wasn't also something going on in the uterus. Since they're already in there anyway and you are already under anesthesia why not do it??? Mine came back clear with the uterus looking great, but I would have worried had I not known. . . You know the "What if's?" Either way since my husband and I are finished having kids I am now having a hysterectomy this Friday. The cancerous cells are in the cervix (even after the cone they can grow back, so why wait in fear IF your through having kids?) So the only way to completely remove the cervix, which is the anchor for the uterus, is to do a total hysterectomy. By the way, a total hysterectomy doesn't have anything to do with removal of the ovaries as some doctors in the past called it. Any time the cervix is removed it's called a total hysterectomy because that means the cervix and uterus have been taken. I am having my procedure done with the c section cut so that they can make sure they get everything out that doesn't look right. They, meaning my gynocologist and my gyno-oncologist, both think the cut is better in order to prevent missing anything and the Lord knows I want them to get it all!
You will be in my thoughts and prayers & I hope this is somewhat helpful. By the way, the cone was really no big deal. I felt great in two days and was up cooking dinner =)

I just wanted to comment on this statement. Everyone has the right to research whichever medical treatment is right for them however removing the uterus (and cervix) does not rid the possibilty of a future recurrence. HPV has the ability to attack more than just the cervix, it can cause cancer and/or dysplasia of the vagina, vulva, anus, etc. Most often a LEEP or cone can be completely curative of dysplasia (90-95%) - yes there is always the chance for a recurrence which is why we need to continue with regular smears, even after having a hysterectomy. The uterus has more functions than just child bearing so I encourage anyone to make sure they do their full research before deciding what method of treatment is right for them.

I have had the cold knife and D&C done. I'm not bleeding at all is that normal? Just a day of little spotting. I had a little burning feeling after the Cold knife. He said i can go back to work but i dont know about that i'm in the banquet server department and i carry trays that weigh about 35 to 40 lbs. should i go back or not. just asking i dont want to mess my self up and have to take more time off and loss my job over it. work is hard to come by.
