I'm a little scared......

0 Recommendations

I was diagnosed with HPV in 04' and at first I was terrified. Ever since then I've had two beautiful healthy kids and I'm in a good relationship with a nice man. I just got a pap done and it came back saying there were two types detected and suppose to be high risk. That scares me a lot. I really don't know what to do.......

Hi Desire10! Sorry you are having to deal w/ this:(
In 2004 did you have dysplasia and was it removed?
And what about now? Are you having a colposcopy?

Hi, in 04' I had genital warts removed.....I'm not quite sure what dysplasia is and i think i got the colposcopy done when i got my pap done.Is that tested when your swabbed for a pap? if not I'll check into that.Because throughout both pregnancies I didn't hear no more about this HPV since I got the warts removed in 04'.And my pap back in December was negative but I wasn't tested for HPV but the recent one I had came up positive with two high risk types.

desire, i would encourage you to find our more specifics about your test results. the pap should indicate results such as ASCUS, LGSIL, HGSIL, etc. and here's a website that describes the various results:
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/detection/Pap-test

and, continue to learn more about hpv. there are many strains of hpv, and the 'low risk' hpv strains can potentially cause genital warts, and the 'high risk' strains can potentially cause dysplasia. here's a website to learn more about hpv: www.thehpvtest.com

Cervical dysplasia is abnormal cells, which may or may not progress to cancer. most women clear mild dysplasia on their own, and even moderate and severe dysplasia won't necessarily progress, but have the possibility to do so. here's the definition from the national institute of health: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001491.htm

hope that helps. let us know how you're doing!
