I was infected by my Husband

0 Recommendations

I recently went to see my OB doctor to follow up on a miscarriage. Everything is back to normal with the miscarriage but I tested positive for HPV. Having only had one sexual partner (my Husband) he infected me. My doctor told me I have two options- to wait 6 months and have another pap. I am 22 and my body could clear it on its own. Or have a Colposcopy. I am not sure what I should do. Any suggestions? My husband and I wanted to start trying again for kids but have put that on hold until we know more about HPV. Since he infected me and there are no tests for men with HPV, can he keep infecting me? I had a pap about a year ago and tested negative for HPV. I have been sexually active for about 2 years. Why have I just been infected? So many question... please help. Thanks

i'm sorry to hear about the miscarriage, and my heart goes out to you. as for the pap and hpv issues, you may want to find out more details. simply having hpv is very common, and most women will clear the hpv infection on their own. you'll want to find out if the pap test came out abnormal, and if so, the results. did it show dysplasia? or inflammation? and did the hpv test show 'high risk' or 'low risk' hpv infection? as for why it's showing now, often women who are pregnant are more susceptible to hpv infection and dysplasia, and it may clear once your hormones are fully back to normal. however it's also a risk if you are pregnant again. meanwhile, keep learning more about hpv and cervical cancer/dysplasia - knowledge is power.

i'm also very sorry that you got hpv from your husband and hope the two of you are able to deal with and handle the emotions that can raise. as i often say....it only takes one partner.

Hi believer, my husband of 10 years also infected me after he had an afair last year. A person can have HPV for years and not know it so your husband could have had it for years even before yall were together. If your pap was abnormal I would suggest you need to have a colposcopy. I had one last week, it lets your dr get a better view of whats going on with your cervix. Then he may do a biopsy depending on your results they just may do the watch and wait approach like with me... let me know if you have any other questions. :)

as sadface posted, if you have an abnormal pap and positive hpv test result, then the standard guidelines are that you should have a colposcopy.

i wrote a whole thing on surgery then realized you said COLPOSCOPY. Yes have the colposcopy. It's really not a big deal. takes max 15 minutes. I had virtually zero pain during or after. people get so antsy but it hurts more to pierce ur ears, PMS cramps hurt worse. Take three ibuprofins an hour before the thing, about three hours later take two more. take two strictly every four hours thereafter. the next day you shouldn't need any more painkillers. And wear a pad.
