I had a very similar situation. I was 44 and had bad pap, had a colposcopy/biopsy done and was told cancer cells were found. I was scheduled for a radical hysterectomy right away. It may have been different if I was younger and still wanted to be able to have children. I believe the age factor has quite a bit to do with the hysterectomy option. In short, your results from the leep must not have gotten clear margins. This just means some of those cancerous cells are still on your cervix. I know this is not an easy thing to go through, but I feel so grateful that mine was caught early, before it became invasive cancer. Its sounds like this is the case with you as well. I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery. Are you going to keep your ovaries?

doc said she hopes to not take my ovaries said if they appeared abnormal than she would have to II also am 44 so how old are you now and how long ago was your procedure she also said i wopuld be out of work at least 6 weeks

I just turned 45 last month. My surgery was in Jan of this year. If you are able to keep your ovaries, do it.. I decided to have them take mine. Instant menopause is NOT easy..

I am 44 also, and am scheduled for a di vinci lap hyst on Fri 9/18 - this Friday! I am scared, but am ready for this to be over with! I am afraid that my body will not be the same (sexually). I am single and not having sex, but one day I will again. I am being told he will leave one ovary (mother died of ovarian cancer). I don't want to go into menopause, and if the ovaries are fine, would like to keep one. Anyone had the di vinci - is it painful bad????

My suggestion would still be to get a second opinion before having a hysterectomy, no matter what age you are at. It may be inevitable, but best to have two separate opinions about it before jumping in.

HI , I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH CIN3. I AM HAVING A HYSTERECTOMY THE 28TH OF THIS MONTH, HE WILL TRY TO KEEP THE OVARIES. IM SCARED AND I WONDER, IF YOU GET A HYSTERECTOMY DOES THAT MEAN ITS GONE OR CAN IT COME BACK? AND IF IT COMES BACK THEN WHAT THEN, THERE ARE NO MORE PARTS TO TAKE OUT? I AM DREADING THIS BIG TIME!

butterflyangelia, a hysterectomy is not the standard procedure for first steps in removing CIN3.....there are other much less invasive surgeries such as conization or leep. please be sure to get a second opinion before such major surgery. and, please explore your options. and, if you do have a hysterectomy, hopefully it will remove all the dysplasia, but that does not mean that you won't have hpv....you can have hpv, as well as vaginal dysplasia, which most often occurs on the vaginal cuff which is where the cervix used to be. each situation is different but i was told there's a 10 to 15% chance to have recurring vaginal dysplasia. even after a hsyterectomy, you'll need to continue to get your paps and hpv tests.

denisemble, please be sure to get a second opinoin before you have a hysterectomy, or any other major surgery. have you explored other options such as a conization? do you know if you have cancer or whether it's dysplasia, sometimes called pre-cancer. if it's cancer, you want to have a gynecologic oncologist on your medical team. i would also encourage you to get a copy of your medical records so that you can better understand what's going on with your health. let us know how you're doing!

I've had a similar experience, but waiting to go back for my second coloscopy. I wasn't happy with the doctor during my first coloscopy as he got a student to do it and didn't ask me. I was in such a state I didn't question it. What if someone had done it right the first time?

I think you need to keep asking questions and learning about what is happening to your body. I know we are lucky to have medical help, but I won't assume they are right all the time in future.

*big hug* and good luck!! xx
