Horrible colposcopy experience

Had a colposcopy yesterday, 8 yrs after Hysterectomy for Cervical Cancer, I am still HPV Positive. I bled like crazy and had huge clots coming out, it took over an hour to stop the bleeding. Good news is Dr. saw no changes to be worrysome in the vaginal area. She says maybe some natural remedies or supplements i take may have thinned my blood. To all the ladies, plz try ur best to AVOID A HYSTERECTOMY, that does not clear your HPV!!!!! There are other things you can try like coriolus versicolor (mushroom extract) Dietary changes and DMI. hi, bfly37. so sorry to hear about your experience with the bleeding....so scary! hopefully this is with your gynecologic oncologist, right? it's good to hear that she didn't see dysplasia, but the bleeding would certainly be a concern. do you know if you were hpv negative after the hysterectomy, and now testing positive again? might it be from a new exposure? also, if there's vaginal atrophy, that can be a 'good' environment for hpv and dysplasia. is the doctor doing additional tests to be sure all is well, ct scans, etc.? let us know how you're doing!

and, yes, absolutely, one can still have hpv without a cervix or uterus! always a good reminder for everyone.

Thanx for the response, I dont believe the doctor has seen anything such as the atrophy but i will definately check with her and I amgoing to a general doctor to do blood tests to see if there is anything causing the bleeding. Yes I am currently HPV positive but no changes, im on a few supplements now. I believe i might have been reinfected or its the same HPV that sometimes lies dormant in your system, i have met other women that even after a hyst have problems with paps even months after. Thanx take care.

having a recurrance (or new) active hpv infection would be very different situation that an active hpv infection for 8 years. the longer the hpv infection is active, the greater the risk of dysplasia/cancer developing. so, hopefully you were clear of hpv after the hysterectomy, and now it's recurred, or, more likely, if you've had a new exposure, then it's a new infection. most active hpv infections appear in 6 to 12 months after the exposure.

i'm not sure of your stage of cervical cancer, but you definitely want your gynecologic oncologist involved if there's lots of bleeding during the exam. have you been having regular ct scans post cancer diagnosis? could this be a result of your radiation treatments? just some thoughts.....let us know how you're doing!
