I had a high grade pap back in June. I'm 25 now.
My pap said "HSIL moderate."
I believe a pap smear can only tell you if you have low grade changes (LSIL) or high grade changes (HSIL).
A colposcopy will give your doctor a better idea about what they are dealing with. My doctor assured me that HSIL is a pre-cancerous condition and does not mean that you have cancer.
Colposcopy helps classify the pre-cancerous lesions that were found on your cervix. From lowest to highest there is CIN I, II and III. Often, doctors will just wait and watch CIN I because those lesions are more likely to regress, but CIN II and CIN III are usually removed with a LEEP procedure.
The fact that you tested negative for the virus is a good sign. Although you are never "cured" of hpv, it can go into remission, allowing your body to fight or clear any lesions.
I am hpv + right now.

I had my colposcopy in July and they took three biopsies and did an EC. The EC was negative and the three biopsies came back as inflammation, which I heard is unusual if you have a high grade result on your pap. There is the possibility that the inflammation could be hiding more serious changes.
I go back next Monday for my follow up pap and I'm so scared!
I have my fingers crossed that it hasn't gotten worse, although I doubt it's gotten any better.

If you have any questions about the colpo, feel free to ask me. I was scared shitless of that procedure too, and while it was not pleasant, it wasn't painful.
Good luck.

Hello,
I had to get a colposcopy last month and I have to receive the LEEP surgery on 10/22 because my cell changes were high and I am so nervous. I have been crying and crying because just trying to understand HPV is very difficult. Then I was reading about how you can give your partner (male) genital warts, this is what really hurts the most. We have been together for three years and no kids. We want kids so bad especially him but I am wondering if I should even be thinking of kids right now. Do anybody have kids after the LEEP procedure?

Did anybody have to take work off for their LEEP? If so, how much time? I am thinking that I should take some time off because my job requires lifting and hours of standing on your feet. What do you think about taking time off?

I know that my cells have to be tested my pathologist, I know that I am not going to be able to sleep or concentrate after this surgery. I am extremely terrified right now and I keep counting the days down. My sister and boyfriend is coming to the surgery with me for moral support and I am so thankful to have them.
I did not even tell my job yet because I wanted to wait until after I go to the pre-op appointment which is on 10/13. I want to tell them but I do not want to because I am a personal person but I know that I have to tell them because I know for at least 3 days or so you should take off.
If anyone have any information, stories, opinions please feel free to share them with me.
Thanks everybody and have a good day!!

I'm scared too, i think were all scared it's a shocker to hear the word's adnormal or to think of the word pre-cancer or cancer i go in tommrow at 1:30 to see what's up ive cried alot and wondered why this is happening to me but i have to deal with it..I'll keep everyone posted on what i find out im hoping maybe we can all lean on one another during this time because i know it's nice to have someone understand especially someone going through the same thing..I think it wouldn't be so bad if i could figure out why but who know's =( plzzz stay n touch n i will toooooo!!!!! =)

Hello there,

First off, let me tell all of you ladies that I've had 3 colposcopy's done and 1 LEEP surgery so far in my over a year battle with this virus.

Secondly, it will be ok. I was scared too because I knew nothing about any of this when I was first told I had a high-grade PAP. I had CIN III cells which are the worst kind because they are the step before they turn into cancer cells. When I went to my doctor for my colposcopy she sat and explained everything to me. Ask them questions. They're your best source for information. I will tell you this though, a colposcopy hurts like a SOB, depending on how deep your doctor has to dig depending on what they see. Because mine was so high, I had to have surgery 3 weeks after my first colposcopy. Your doctor may decide something different.

If you do have a LEEP, you get a set of "rules" for the next few days and month. No sex for a month, no heavy lifting for a few days, no showering for a day, no DRIVING for a day (so bring someone to surgery with you! You can't leave without someone else driving you!), and a few other things. All in all it's not too bad. I woke up right as I was being brought into the recovery room and was wide awake and annoying the nurses until they released me. The doctor will come talk to oyu about the surgery, normally things go well. It takes a couple hours to get out of there but it's not too bad. I remember having horrible cotton mouth. Get water not the nasty pop they have! And no Italian Ice. ICK! I was tired after I ate a full meal after surgery, but otherwise I was ok. The next you'll be exhausted though so take it off. But I was fine by the day after. Again, though, different people react differently.

We're all scared. I just had my third colposcopy and it showed that I have HPV again (which was the cause of my high-grade PAP in the first place) so I'm scared especially since I'm only 24, but I've decided that no matter what I'm going to fight this to the end and overcome this battle. Give the man, friends, and family in your life big hugs and love because they will help you get through this. That I can promise you.

If you have any questions hit me up! Good luck ladies and may God bless you all.

My doctor told me she has had patients who've had 2 LEEP's done and still had healthy kids. It was something I was worried about too only being 24. So it is possible so don't worry about it yet until you're pregnant (that's what I'd say at least). And HPV doesn't just cause genital warts. If you're having a LEEP done, then most likely kind you probably have is what causes Cervical Cancer. It's a rare form of HPV but it's out there. And you don't necessarily contract it through sex, but can be born with HPV. Most women's bodies just fight if off. For us select few, it doesn't. And men can't be tested for it so you'll never know the source of where it came from.

I hope that helps and read my other post to hear more about LEEP surgery! Good luck!

Hey,
Phoenixaz, how did your colposcopy go on Friday? I hope that all went good for you. I go for me pre-op appointment tomorrow and I am so nervous. I am thinking about taking 1 month off because my job consist of heavy lifting, on your feet for hours at a time, it is a very stressful environment. I want to recoperate myself before I end up hurting myself physical because this is so nerve recking. Keep us posted Phoenixaz and you would be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey Angeleyes,
How are you doing? It is crazy that women do not even know about HPV, this is a silent killer in my eyes. One minute you are fine and the next minute your cells are abnormal. I have my Leep procedure on Oct. 22 and I am so scared, I try not to think about it because I know that it will wear me down even more. It seem like your LEEP procedure did not really affect you like the other woman.
But, when I go to my pre-op appointment and am going to ask him if I can take a month off from my full time job because I am on my feet for at least 8 hours a day, lifting 50 lbs boxes, bending low, etc. Plus, my period is very heavy due to irregular menstrual cycle and I already feel weak at times and the calculation for my cycle is close to the LEEP Procedure. But, my part time job I work like 3-5 hours a day and it is very mild so I was thinking just work there and then relax at home.
Another question: Does all HPV strains give your male partner genital warts?
Well, thank you Angeleyes for wisdom and support because I do need it. You also will be in my thoughts and prayers!! Thanks again!!

LILMAMA,
I'm alright. Still fairly scared since I thought I was in the clear but now I'm back to the waiting game. I'm just hoping that I can still have healthy children. I'm only 24 and am going to be getting married eventually and having kids, but I hope all of my procedures don't effect that. Other than that I'm great :).

A LEEP isn't too bad. They put you to sleep so you don't feel a thing. The results don't take too long to get. A week or so max and normally the doctor will tell you how things went and what they got out after they finish the procedure. It's realtively painless (compared to the colposcopies!) and you just feel really exhausted for a few days.

Phoenix call your doc because my last biopsy I had done on a Monday and by Thursday she got the results for me. See if your doctor could do the same to you (because another time I had to wait almost a month and it about killed me).

Good luck to each of you! You are all very strong women and will get through this!

I am only 24 years old myself and I wish I knew what I know now. My biggest fear is not being able to have kids because my cycle was irregular your some years now. But, it is back on track now but I have to deal with the HPV now. It is so hard dealing with HPV because a lot of people do not know about it and people look at you differently and jugde you accordingly thinking that you are disgusting.
So much is going on in life for me and now I am trying to deal with this also....my nerves are getting worst.
I do not think I am scared of the LEEP procedure but for the result from the pathologist. When you are younger you have so many dreams and plans on you want your life to be but what happened to those dreams and plans?
My doctor told me not to lift anything heavy for like 2 weeks so I was just gonna take like 3 weeks off to get myself together.
Well, thank you for sharing your knowledge with me and giving me encouragement. I hope that all is well for you!! ALways in my thoughts and prayers!!

Love,
TQ

Honey I am right there with you! I understand exactly how you feel, and I do mean exactly. It is hard but I'm hoping and praying that things will turn out better for me. I find talking about this is finally helping me heal and realize that what I am going through is important, and there are many other people going through it and as scared as I am and was when I first found out about how highly abnormal my PAP was. I feel very blessed to have you all to talk to and I feel even more blessed to have my boyfriend and family stand by me and help me through all of this. Thank you all of you for helping me find my voice and let it start being heard.

Hello, everyone I had my Leep procedure on Thursday and everything was fine. I go for my post op in two weeks. I do not have any pain or discharge. I am so thankful that this procedure is over and to new beginings!! Everything happen for a reason, for all the ladies that know that they have HPV please educate those around you!! Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers!!

Love,
TQ
