Has anyone had this type of hysterectomy?

0 Recommendations

On Dec. 1 I'm having a total hysterectomy...the da Vinci hysterectomy. Whoever had had this, please let me know how long was your stay in the hospital, and how long did it take to fully recover, and go back to work and normal activities. I have read up on this, and this procedure is less painful, less blood loss, less rick of infection, shorter hospital stay, and quicker recovery and returning to normal activities.

I just had a vaginal hysterectomy which is likely even less invasive as there are NO incisions. I am basically back to normal activities already and my surgery was 6 days ago.

I know there was someone on here who had had a Davinci hysterectomy cuz she contacted me when I was asking questions before my procedure and her recovery was super quick! I can't remember who it was though. You may want to look through my posts on this.. who knows.

Honestly, I feel WAY better than I thought I would. I've been up and about since an hour after my surgery. I stayed overnight in hospital, but I probably could have gone home. I was fine.

Ok, I looked through my post and it was DebWill02 who had a davinci hyst. She was back to work within 2 weeks.

I am scheduled for DaVici total hystorectomy on December 7. I am scared to death, not so much about the surgery, but about sex after I heal. I have read so many women don't enjoy sex after total hystorectomy. I certainly don't want to let this turn into full fledged cancer as I have already had breast cancer, but I am afraid I won't enjoy sex any more. Sex is important to me. I won't be able to use HRT or any thing containing estrogen because my breast cancer was estrogen fed.

Please let me know how you find sex after you heal. I need to prepare myself mentally if I know what is coming. Thanks.

Dear inspiredbyu,

I am sorry that you are going through this and have to have a hysterectomy, but i just wanted to let you know that i did have mine on July 2008. I do recommend the da Vinci method to who ever needs to get a hysterectomy. I spent one night at the hospital and when i woke up the next day i felt so hungry and ordered my big breakfast with my doctor's permission of course. I went home around noon and i have to tell you that i had NO PAIN what so ever. You will have some gass issue which is related to the gass that they will pump inside you and that was the only issue i had which took about 3 days and i was fine after that. I was walking around and was really alright, but I took it easy for about 10 days and on the 10th day post my hysterectomy, I took my daughter to the mall. The recovery will be so quick with less blood loss. I can say that I looked much better post hysterectomy than what I looked after my cone biopsy in February 2008. Just let your body heal and try to not rush it. Rest as much as you can, but do walk around your home.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any question. I wish you the best of luck on your hysterectomy. God bless.

Dear someone,

I am very sorry that you had a breast cancer and now have to deal with this, but you sound like a trooper and a strong woman.

I just wanted you to know that my sex life did not change after hysterectomy, and I know many others that will state the same thing. NO CHANG in their sexuall life. I still do get my orgasm every time that i am intimate with my husband without failing and I actually enjoy it even more. I wish you luck on your upcoming procedure. God bless.

I have to ask a very personal question. I also had a complete hysterectomy in early Oct. I had uterine cancer so along with everything else part of my vagina was removed - they call it a vaginal cuff. Did you have that? Did they remove the cervix? It was great to read that it has not affected your sex life. I am hopeful that I will be able to be 'normal'.

dear Wendii ,

I am sorry that you had to have a hysterectomy, but i hope all is finished with and you can put this behind you. My doctor removed my cervix, but left the ovaries and vaginal cuff. I do hope that you be back to your normal life soon. I know one of the ladies on this site that had her hysterectomy at the same time as i did, but her doctor removed some parts of her vaginal cuff although according to her, her sex life post hysterectomy was the same as before.

I wish you a very quick and healthy recovery. God bless.

taylor 1. I'm 58. You think since i'm older, my recovery will take me more time to heal?

ladies, everyone has a 'vaginal cuff' after a hysterectomy. the vaginal cuff is what is at the top of the vagina, where the cervix used to be. it's what the doctors create when they 'close' the vagina where it used to lead up to the uterus through the cervix. i've heard some people think of this as a sock.....the vaginal cuff is the toe part of the sock, and the vagina is the rest of the sock. if part of the vaginal tissue was also removed, then the vagina (or sock, in the analogy) is shorter. hope that helps.

stopcancernow: How about a HPV test you can do in the privacy of your own home and not have to go into the docs office for the test?!!?!?!

stopcancernow: How about HPV Point-of-care testing in Docs office so you can get HPV result while in the office?? We have the technology to do that now.

stopcancernow: It is good to be careful not to over test young adults (under 21). So so many positives that amount to nothing and women over tested!!
