Had Cervical cancer 21 years ago

0 Recommendations

I had Cervical cancer 21 years ago in which they did a hysterectomy. In August I had a bad pap that shows hsil.

They have sent me down for a MRI, but no answers until the end of October.

Can anyone tell me what to expect! The doctor just says wait and see. They had marked the MRI urgent.

I am scared and my husband just tells me not to worry until I have to.

I thought the surgery had taken care of the cancer! I did not receive Chemo the first time around, I am thinking that if I had maybe I wouldn't be in this spot again.

betbiss, do you know if they're also planning a colposcopy to take a closer look at the vagina, vulva, etc. to see what's going on? and, did they do an hpv test at the same time to see if you have an active hpv infection? i would encourage you to see a gynecologic oncologist, if you're not already seeing one, to better determine what's going on, and the next steps. please let us know how you're doing!

Betbiss:
I can't really tell us much because I am a 20 month survivor of CC. My was at stage 1B2; I had a radical hysterectomy & chemo/radiation.
But I do want to let you know, Betbiss, you will be in my thoughts & prayers.
Why it is taking so long for the results of your MRI, I don't know. I had a MRI because of hearing lose & I had the results in about a week. I would ask the lab &/or doc why so long.
The last PET/CT scan I had I went & got the results from the lab before I went to the oncologist because their was a week & 1/2 wait. They had the results of the PET/CT scan in 2 days.
Please keep us posted on the results of your MRI.

Dear Betbiss,

I am sorry that you are experiencing problems now. I hope that it is nothing serious.

I have been in remission for 16 months, and when I read your discussion, I was so very happy to see someone who has been cancer-free for such a long period.

It is hard to imagine that cancer could possibly recur after such a long period of time. I pray for you. I hate the word cancer, and more so the diagnosis of cancer. It is something that stays with you for the rest of your life, whether it be a daily reminder, a recurrence, the diagnosis of a loved one, whatever. It changes your life forever.

Please let us know what you find out. The waiting is horrible. I call and ask before I have my tests when the results will be ready so that I can pick them up myself and be prepared for what all cancer patients want and pray for, normal results.

It has been 21 yrs. for you, I hope you stay cancer-free 21 more!

Dear Betbiss,
I too would like to know why it took so long to get your results back. I had my MRI back within 2 working days. Your results took 2 MONTHS?? That is really odd. I am sorry you are going through all this. But your husband is right...don't worry until you have to.

Thanks for the support everyone. Today is the day I find out. For such a strong person I sure am scared.

Hoping it is nothing serious! Please let us know what you find out today! Best Wishes!
