flaming vagina and rectum

Talk to me please,I am 61and I can't be the only one who has this issue. I am on fire( vaginal & rectal) since 3/08. Can't get relief from Dr. or find answers or solution that works for raw burning pain. Hysterectomy at age 38. Hormone therapy was an issue, finally resolved, then just quit 22yrs later. Abstinent for 12+ years. Finally met my prince, but I have vaginal atrophy/HPV(shocking).
Trying creams and sitting on ice, also homeopathic. So frustrated, hopeful yet tearful. My man is supportive with grace and love,I am thankful.I also have fibromyalgia and major menopause issues.
I'm willing to share my experiences to help others and
would welcome questions, concerns and or well wishes. My spirit soars and falls looking for places to land with a proper diagnosis and treatment with peace and comfort in mind. Yes, it could be worse but I believe it can get better. I am disabled and on S.S.
dependent on Med-cal, Medicare. The broken system
doesn't lead me to the care I deserve. How about you? Are you in need of a friend who truly cares? If I can offer you hope...just open the door!

Hello Sunwoman-48,
I am very sorry you are having this horrible problem. I understand first hand for I too experienced relentless vaginal burning and it wasn't because of having sex either although, I have never experienced rectal burning at all.

I cried to my gynecologist/oncologist because of how bad the burning was. I wanted him to do an hpv test to see if I had an active infection to see if that's what was causing my burning pain. He did not do an hpv test and said even if it is an active infection, he could not treat it because it would be dangerous to my health to do so.

Anyway, he said he believed the burning was from vaginal inflamation so he ordered me two different anti-inflamatory steroidal creams to use vaginally: Clobetasol Propionate Cream 0.05% and Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream 0.1%. He instructed me to use them alternately on a daily basis for two weeks. He also said, a very little amount goes a long way. He also said it might thin out the vaginal muccosa so not to use it for longer than two weeks.

Well it worked!! I used it for the two weeks in August of this year and haven't had to use it since. All the burning is gone. Your doctor may not prescribe this for you if you are experiencing vaginal atrophy, I don't know? Perhaps that's what's causing your burning pain after sex?

I hope this will help you:)

Sun Woman - I'm 60 and unfortunately for women our age, vaginal atrophy just happens (yea, it sucks!). Don't know if this would be for you but my doc gave me vaginal estrogen which helps the walls of the vagina (which of course thins and drys out w/menopause and age). I haven't been in a relationship for about 8 years so I have no idea if the cream would help if I ever met someone and had sex again. It did help w/my year paps (I always tell her to use the "baby speculum" - lol!) so maybe it'll help you - not sure as you mention other medical issues.

Sorry - isee you mention you tried creams - was it the estrogen creams?

hi, sunwoman. i'm sorry you're dealing with all this. i would encourage you to persist with your doctors, or see a different doctor, so that you can get a diagnosis and a treatment....you should not be in such awful pain all the time! vaginal atrophy can be treated with topical estrogen cream which is very effective, and the doctor should be able to determine if that's the main problem, or if there are other issues as well.

I have many of the problems you're talking about, and I'm in the process of trying to figure out the cause (or causes) of the discomfort. Feel free to write to me whenever you want to talk!

Thank you RKH...Your empathy meant so much to me.
After seeing my Dr., and trying his therapy that gave me no relief, I went so far as to write my Dr. I was very surprised that he called and said," we'd get my bottom fixed." Well, I'm still waiting for the fix. I also got a second opinion...with no help. I am concerned that your Dr. did not do an HPV test. It is true that there are no treatments that can actually help. But knowing that you have it, would give you more information. I've recently been informed that there are many different strains of HPV that could lead to many different results. And also, should you become sexually active, your partner should know. And you should use protection to help prevent it moving on to another, in the event that your partner should move on. Fortunately I am in a loving relationship with no concern of infidelity even though we have not enjoyed each other in a sexual manner for well over a year. As far as vaginal atrophy, I was not aware of this condition. And even when he informed me that this could be causing my burning he put me on a premarin cream and took me off of 1mg estrace tablet that worked so well for me for many years. His explanation was, I didn't need it any more.
Yet, premarin is another form of hormone therapy. I've given-up on using it since it makes no difference.
Of course hot-flashes arrived with a vengeance! So, now I'm flash sweating on and off, usually evenings and during the night, adding to the issue.
I'm so happy for you that your burning seized and that it did not include your rectum. And once again I thank you for your concern and information. I will press on.
Sincerely, Sun Woman

Hello Mickietucs...Thanks for your concern. Finding out about vag atrophy was a rude awakening! And yes, I tried inserting premarin cream. I waited for relief for months, but it never arrived. I finally gave it up...and of course the flashes arrived with a vengeance! I try to deal with them with courage and a sense of humor. Also using a product suggested by a herbalist. It's from Biotics Research Corp., called Nephra-Zyme. It does help flashing...Hooray!
I don't know if the hormone therapy would help you if you became sexually active. Because of my discomfort, sex is out of the question. According to my Dr. the atrophy is better, but the burning is not and he expresses he does not know what is causing it...go figure! I got a second opinion, with no help. I guess we rely on the professionals to know the answers. But we need to find one who is really willing to take the time and research to find a solution. HPV does not cause burning and often there are no symptoms.
Since I do have other medical issues and I am on meds., I am wondering if one or more of them could be the culprit. Also, I've taken yeast medications with little relief and once I've finished them, the burn returns quickly. Well, I do hope you find a special someone worthy of sharing sexual intimacy. After all
we are human and have been given the gift to enjoy
with grace and of course common sense.
Sending you best and well wishes,
Sun Woman

Thank you Flowershoplady for your reply. Yes, I've tried
premarin cream. Helped the atrophy but not the burning. In fact it seemed to make the burn worse!
I gave it up. Of course the hot flashes arrived with a vengeance! I've found a product that helps with the flashes...it's called Nephra-Zyme, by Biotics Research Corp. Hooray for that. I also went for a second opinion with no help and unfortunately, little concern. I was so disappointed. I will continue my quest for answers, not only for myself but for others in need as well.
Sincerely, Sun Woman

might you have vulvodynia or vulvar vestibulitis? i'm not familiar with this extending to the rectum but you could try the ways to treat vulvadynia...the first steps are quite basic......eliminating all fragrances and dyes from products you use on the vaginal area....that includes soaps, laundry detergents, and even be careful with shampoos to rinse so the soaps don't run down along your body. think about whether you've changed any personal products and maybe that's becoming an irritant.

and, if you're experiencing terrible menopausal symptoms, is there a reason you don't go back on your hrt? are there other health risks you're balancing with the avoiding of hrt?

and, please don't settle for a doctor who says he doesn't know what's going on and just throws up his hands.....ask him to refer you to someone who may be able to help you further. you should not be in pain! i'm assuming you've been tested for all std's? and infections of various sorts?

i hope you're soon able to find some relief!

OH...Marsha123, You too, have this condition? I am sorry to hear that you are in the same situation. I guess we need to communicate in depth regarding our pain and suffering. I've received several well wishes and comments and I am grateful. I'm very tired today and wish I could respond to everyone with words of encouragement and hope. Maybe, we could outline a criteria regarding this dilemma, what to you think?
Please, tell me more about yourself and I will look forward to working with you on the quest for healing.
With well wishes, Sun Woman

Wow... Flowershoplady. you're quick to respond...I'm in deep appreciation regarding your suggestions. I haven't changed any products, but I will be very careful. I've not heard of the conditions you spoke of. I will look into them further. As far as HRT I've been on premarin cream, with no relief, it seemed to make the burning worse, so I quit. I have found a product for hot flashes called, Nephra-Zyme, by Biotics Research Corp. It was rec. by an herbalist, whom I am working with in hope and trust. It certainly has helped. I've gotten a second opinion, I was basically dismissed (sad). Yes, I was tested for STDs
HPV positive, yet no symptoms also one Dr. stated I was pos. for herpes the other said no! What do I do with that??? I've had no break-out but I am concerned and confused. I will continue my quest and thanks again for your well wishes.
Sun Woman

Sunwoman,

So sorry to hear of your difficulties. One thing you might try for the burning is tea bags steeped, cooled and then placed directly on the affected areas. Or you can make a strong tea solution and apply this with a saturated cloth.

Someone above mentioned their doc gave them a steroid cream. That is one of the worst things you can use if you have HPV especially if you are applying it to an area which may harbor the virus. The steroids will only foster the HPV and make it worse and they depress the immune system which also contributes to this problem.

I was given a steroid cream to use during my pregnancy for what the doc thought were hemorrhoids. It was later determined that the immunosuppression during pregnancy and the use of this steroid cream multiple times a day for four months caused my HPV to accelerate and become an invasive cancer. Any doc worth his salt regarding his knowledge of HPV should know better than to prescribe steroids.

Dragonfly23, Thanks for your information. You are to be commended for your offering of experience regarding HPV. You have had a rough time of it and I send you my condolences. So, how are you doing? I can't imagine what you've had to endure, especially with children. I hope you have the support you need.

I never conceived and my OBGYN did his best.
After several procedures to become a mother, I discovered to my dismay that my husband knew he was sterile and played a devastating game with me for several years. After the well kept secret was out I couldn't trust him any longer and we divorced.
I did re-marry, it failed. And I resolved not to feel un- fulfilled regarding the the lack of children, although it was my dream wish. I told myself," God knew best".

I will continue my search for answers and relief. And I will try the tea (maybe an organic) would be best. And I'm, putting a special request out to the UNIVERSE ON YOUR BEHALF. YOU ROCK BABY!

WELL WISHES TO YOU, SUN WOMAN

I too suffered from that burning vagina feeling and was not sure what it was all about. I look at my vagina all the time and it look bright red as well. It would come and go, but was with me more than it was not.
I started drinking a green tea called Matcha ( which has many health benefits too it ) After drinking the green tea for about a week and 1/2, for some unknown reason my burning vagina has dissapeared. If you want you can google Matcha green tea and check out the health benefits of it. Give it a try and see what happens. It could be all in my head too. I'm willing to try anything as long as it's natural.
That's just my imput.
Hope you feel better :)

Hi Autumleaves, Your input is valuable and appreciated.
Thanks for the suggestion of Matcha, I'll check it out. I say to you..."IT IS NOT IN YOUR HEAD", this issue we share. Please check out through Wikipedia; Vulvodynia.
I found it most enlightening as an explanation of this malady. As far as our heads are concerned, I have suffered depression and have found it difficult to focus at my normal expectations. When we are overwhelmed with a painful and questionable concern, it can consume our minds and often the spirit. We sometimes feel helpless... without hope.
We have received a welcomed gift through Team Inspire. I am charged to seek MY MIRACLE.
Wishing you the best, Sun Woman

It's funny that flowershopwoman mentioned vulvodynia. I've been diagnosed with this condition in the past. I never connected it with my current pain since last time I had it the pain was excruciating and I was running frantically from doctor to doctor, having multiple tests, until my old gyn mentioned vulvodynia and gave me low dose amitriptyline (sp?) which got rid of the pain almost immediately. This vulvodynia could cause burning pain I suppose, since this is a nerve problem, which in worst cases, requires a nerve block. Interesting. Google the condition if you need more information.

marsha and sunwoman, a good source of information about vulvadynia is at nva.org and they've also got a great support network

flowershoplady,
thanks...will check it out. I'm overwhelmed with news of hope. Thinking positive...sending best of health to you.
