I got some news finally on the BCCS medicaid. They are rushing it and hope to have me a ID # on Monday. The bonus is I will be able to chose a place closer to home. So, anyone know any good cancer centers in the Dallas / Ft Worth area?

great news to hear that you've been approved for medicaid. i would recommend that you go to the best hospital and best doctor you can go to, particularly for your initial diagnostic tests and treatment plans, even if there are other local hospitals closer. you had mentioned going to a doctor or hospital affiliated with md anderson and that would be great. you want the best you can get - and you deserve it. if you need ongoing care such as chemo or radiation treatments, that can sometimes be arranged at a hospital closer to you.
when i look at a doctor's credentials, i look for board certification, and i think doctors that are attendings in teaching hospitals tend to be more current with the latest research and protocols, etc.
and, referrals are always valuable. do you have a local doctor whom you like and trust? perhaps he/she can point you in the right direction.
i'm sure it's a relief to get the medicaid approval, and i hope getting the appointment set up goes smoothly as well.
Congratulations, glitz. I'm so glad to hear that the BCCS medicaid is approved. That's a huge relief.
I have nothing to add about how to look for a care provider, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you during this process and sending positive thoughts and encouragement your way.
You are your best advocate -- and know that you deserve the best care -- so I just hope that you're able to connect with medical professionals who are truly excellent!
MD Anderson, I hear it is one of the best.
Dear glitz:
I am so happy about the BCCS medicaid. It is a huge relief. Nurse 2b is right about MD Anderson. I have heard that they are very good. My OBGYN refered me to MD Anderson here in Florida and told me that they are the best. I am going to see him on Tuesday but the bad part of it is that they are extremely expensive and unfortunately my insurance wont cover any of the fees. At least you do not have to be worry about any hospital or doctor fees any more which would put your mind at ease.
I will pray for you and God will help you.
