I should of asked the oncologist this stuff but its on off the things you think about after you leave the office.
how much time do i need in bed when i get home?
i took two weeks off of work,i have a easy job that will let me rest during the day,is two weeks long enough or will i need more time, they say 6 weeks to fully heal, but will i feel well enough to do some stuff after two weeks?
if anyone can give me some in sight on there recovery that would be great.

are you having laproscopic surgery? if so that is a huge difference in healing time. lapro is very non-invasive, therefore, much quicker healing time.
i've had it done, hysterectomy, laproscopically, and frankly i could have been up and fairly about in easily 3 days . but i enjoyed being treated so specially, so i milked it for 6 days. oh,how bad! i best say 7 obama's and pray for love and happiness in the future, for i told a great white lie. smiles, you will be fine.

Jules,

For my next appt I am making a list of questions nd giving it to husband so when I blank out he will be able to ask my long list . Thoughts are with you god luck and a speedy recovery.

sorry i sould of stated im having a radical hyster, with robotic assistance. they are not to sure what all they are taking out until they get in there,i do know the cervic and uterus is going for sure! sorry for my spelling

Your recovery time will depend on whether they do it vaginally, or abdominally. I had a radical abdominal trachelectomy, which is similar in recovery time. With an abdominal incisions, it was a good 3 weeks before I could have even considered going to my desk job. Your body will experience trauma with any surgery so make sure you get enough rest and let yourself heal. No heavy lifting (anything over 10 lbs), no housework (sweeping) or pushing grocery carts for 4-6 weeks. You will be sore inside. Expect alot of abdominal swelling and some discharge too. You may have to keep the catheter in for a week or so.

Dear jules1972 ,

I am sorry that you have to have a hysterectomy but please do not panik. I did have a robotic hysterectomy in July 2008 and i am glad you are having your the same way. I went home the next day after the surgery and i have to tell you that i was walking around right the very next day of my surgery ( slowly). I had no pain and did not need to take any pain medicine. my only problem was the gas that they pumped into my stomach to push the organs but that went away 3 days later after i had bowl movement. I had some discharge and very light pinkish bleeding for 2-3 weeks. The recovery was very fast. I took my daughter to the mall 14 days after my hysterectomy.

You would need to relax during your recovery time but walk as much as you can but do not over due it. Eat healthy and drink a lot and hopefuly all will go well with your surgery.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers and God bless.

I had a radical hysterectomy with the Davinci Robot 3 weeks ago.
I didn't bleed much at all. I think I was done with the pad by the time I left the hospital the next day.
I am 3 weeks into a 6 week leave of absence from work and could probably go back now but think I'll give it another week. Mainly because I get tired.
I took pain meds for about the first 4 days then tapered off to one at night to help sleep.
The incision sites (5) are all healing nicely, just a little tender but nothing compared to the incision of a full abdominal hysterectomy so I am grateful!
I have had urinary issues and am still having to use a self-cathing method so I probably won't go back to work until that is resolved.
But realistically...yes, if I had to...I could've gone back to work in two weeks.
Best of luck with your surgery, take it easy afterwards and let those who offer help do so!

I had a radical hysterectomy using the davinci about three weeks ago. I was off-work for 2 weeks and went back part-time last week. I'll be back full-time next week.

They kept me in the hospital overnight and discharged me the next day. The first day after surgery was pretty painful for me especially getting up out of bed and walking for the first time. The pain lessened each day and after about 4 days I felt pretty good and didn't need any pain medication.

I was sent home with a catheter and had it for a week. It took another week for my bladder to start working normally again. Some days I still I a few issues, but it keeps improving.

I'd plan on being out at least 2 weeks. The healing process takes a lot of energy. I was pretty tired the first two weeks -- couldn't have imagined going into the office.

Good luck with your surgery. Let us know how things go with your recovery.

I had a hysterectomy 10 days ago. I opted for the old fashioned way with a cut in my lower abdomen. Call me crazy but I was terrified of the drug they give you to paralyse you so they can do it through a laporoscopy. I did not want a machine breathing for me. Anyway, I have been surprised with the recovery. I am only 10 days post op and I did the grocery shopping yesterday. I also thought the bleeding would be similar to after a baby but it was only spotting for the first two days and then nothing. I do admit that I was in a bit of pain when I woke up and I asked for more pain relief. They gave it to me and it was fine...did not feel anything. The next day I only took panadol and nurofen. Got up and walked ok the next day and only stayed in hospital for 2 days. It was not as bad as I thought! It was similar to a c-section for me! You will be fine...try not to get too stressed! I am the biggest wimp..hate pain and it was not so bad. Good luck with everything!

I had the robotic Ass Lap Hyster June 9th, 2009. I was done bleeding when I checked out the next morning from the hospital. I have had little spotting here and there on a thin panty liner but that was it!
