Hello everyone, Im dawn.
About a year ago i went to the doctor and had one of my regular paps done. The results came back and i among thousands of other girls and woman "I" infact have HVP. At first i was scared and didnt want to tell anyone but was booked 3 months down the road to a colposcopy. The first one was fine. The doctor did some tissue samples and but she did not have to do a biopsy the results came back Low grade and I didnt have any GW. The second time i went back 6 months later they had to take 3 biopsys and i was really worried and anxious to no what the heck is going On. I am only 20 years old so i thought " how bad could it be" Yesterday i just recived the news from a health care nurse saying that i have to make the long drive once agian to the holy cross clinic and get laser surgery. The said there was two areas of concern at " 1 O clock and 5 O oclock "
1) Will the laser hurt?
2) how long will it last?
3) will they put me under (sleep)?
4) what will happen after? bleeding pain?
5) whats the recovery time rate?
6) Whats food and vitamin shoud i be eating in the mean time to keep myself healthy???

Dawn: First, I would like to say that I am sorry that you are having to go through this. Secondly, what do they mean areas of concern? I would be calling them back ASAP and asking them what they mean by that. They should be giving you specifics when it comes to something like this. Can you get by a fax machine and have them fax your lab results to you? If you can do this ASAP, there are a lot of woman here that will be able to help you understand your pathology report.
Always get copied of everything that they are doing. This is so important, especially at your age. A lot of times they do not view someone so young as someone who can advocate for themselves.
The best thing that you can do for yourself is get as much knowledge as possible about HPV. This will allow you to have a lot of "well informed" questions and the doctors will not be so evasive with their wording.
The next thing is to start taking a good multi-vitamin. I take "Life's Fortune"; it is said to be one of the best multi-vitamin formulas out on the market right now and you can get it at your local vitamin store. You can even get it at places like eBay. I also take atleast 2,000 mg of vitamin C per day. Cruciferous veggies are so wonderful for your body and preserving a stronger immune system. Exercise is great as well as, if you smoke, stop ASAP!!!! HPV thrives with the nicotine. And don't stand around those who are smoking. Remember that second-hand smoke is harder for our bodies to deal with. If you drink often try to cut back; if you use recreational drugs, stop ASAP.
You have one thing going for you....you are young, and your body is stronger to fight off the HPV.
It is odd to me, being that you are so young, that they want to do a laser surgery. Usually, when they are dealing with younger HPV patients they take a different approach. They seem to try and wait longer to let your body clear the HPV on it's own. Please, call them tomorrow and find out what they mean by areas of concern. you need to know your ECC results and if your dysplasia is mild, moderate, or severe.
Will you please keep us informed? I know that I would surely be greatful.
Oh, if possible, always try to take someone with you to these appointments. Doctors & nurses are more prone to be thorough when their patient has back-up. :o)

Bymyside: Thanks so much for your reply and all your tips. I was also wondering about the surgery and why they had to resort to laser so fast. My mother had the "freezing" treatment about 10 years ago, so she called the heath care nurse to get the facts because she went through this her- self. The nurse told her they dont do the freeze method anymore and it that they doctors were either going to do the LEEP procedure or laser. On the phone the nurse told me that it was laser and i was going to be put under general anetheisa. She was very quick to tell me "this is not cancer but if we left this to progress over the years it could develop into cancer". This has all happened so fast, so fast in fact i think the doctors are rushing the whole process, like you said you would think they would let it be for a little while considering how young i am.
But thanks so much for the health tips ive been searching on the internet for other suggestions too youve been very helpful.

Dawn, I apologize that I did not address the questions that are at the forfront of your thoughts. I forgot to mention in my prior reply that I have not experienced the procedure that they are wanting to perform on you. There are so many ladies here that can help answer those questions though. I was surprised that noone else had yet replied. They will though :o)
I still am curious as to why they are rushing in to this treatment. I am a bit confused. What have they said the second biopsies showed? Have you gotten a copy of the results yet? If not and they are far away, will they fax them to you? You really need to know what it is that they seem so concerned about. I am just feeling dropped in the middle of your story, I cannot imagine how you must be feeling :o)
Please, take the time to start taking the multi-vitamins and the vitamin C. These will strengthin your immune system which will help to dormatize HPV.
I am so sorry that I cannot be more help to you in your time of need and concern. May God bring you his peace & comfort.

dawn, i would encourage you to find out the latest results of your biopsies so that you can better understand what's going on with your health!
