CINII / III Just waiting on biopsy results now!

Hi everyone ... I'm new here, so thought I'd update everyone on what's happening with me.

I'm 29 and had a smear a few weeks ago, the hospital called me at work on Friday and said I needed to go in on Monday (yesterday) for a Colposcopy as they needed to investigate further ... at this point I hadn't even had my smear results, so I asked what was wrong and they said they couldn't tell me the severity so I'd have to call my doctor. My partner then called me to say my results had come and it was CINIII. I went into panic mode, my last smear was 8 years ago, so I was convinced of the worst!! I had the worst weekend ever :o((

I went in yesterday and the consultant was great, they took a biopsy and from looking at the area he thinks its CINII and has said once the result of the biopsy comes through, I'll be booked in for the LEEP procedure.

I'm really hopeful that it's only CINII, but just need to wait for my results which he said could take up to 6 weeks!

The Colposcopy was fine apart from the biopsy I found quite sharp and achy for a few hours after. The consultant showed me my cervix on a screen and pointed to the area affected which is quite small at 6 o'clock - I could only really see once the acid had turned it white though.

I found this site on Sunday and it really helped me stay positive. I didn't post anything though, coz I was so scared about the procedure on Monday. But I'm here now!

My thoughts are with all of you and I'll keep you all updated on me.

I hope every thing goes well for you. I had my LEEP today, and it was not as bad as the biopsies (they numbed my cervix which helped). The only part that was uncomfortable was the injection to numb. THe actual procedue didn't hurt and it was a very warm feeling. My doctor said the results would be back in about a week so I hope you don't have to wait 4 weeks! The waiting is the stressful part. Hello, Madfaery!

Okay, I'm a little confused! CIN III is a histologic term/ diagnosis that is used only after the tissue collected from a biopsy has been closely examined by a patholigist.

A pap smear result that "may" indicate CIN III would be refrenced by the term HGSIL, but any abnormal pap result, including ASCUS, may indicate CIN III and should be followed up with an HPV DNA test, as well as a biopsy. I don't believe in the "wait and see" approach, but here you have a doctor on the complete other end of the spectrum, who's telling you that you have CIN III, based on nothing more than some abnormal pap smear result, and who is already discussing booking you for the LEEP procedure during your colposcopy. I don't know, seems a little overzealous to me, but maybe that's just me! And why six weeks for the lab results??

It has been my experience that pap smears are extremely unrelaible, in and of themselves. Did your doctor give you an HPV DNA test? If so, what were the results?

While I am terribly sorry to hear about your abnormal pap results, I would seek the opinions of some of the other women on here that are more rehearsed in this than I am. I would just hate to see you get the LEEP procedure if you really don't need it! Best of luck to you!!

Yeah, 6 weeks for the results is absurd! It doesn't take that long! It takes a couple days, a week AT MOST! What the heck are they doing, waiting till the sample grows legs and walks away?! Dang!

Hi ... well they told me I'd have to wait 6 weeks for my smear results, but they were back in 2 weeks, so hopefully it'll be a similar situation with the biopsy results. It must be the NHS that makes things so slow!

I had full STI/STD screening done about 18 months
ago, as my partner and I were starting IVF (I'm in a same sex relationship, have been for 6 years - my partner had the IVF - which was successful! Our daughter is 8 weeks old!). Well everything was clear on those tests. So I asked the consultant about HPV and if its normal to have the abnormal cells with no HPV present and he said that it was most likely out of my system and as I've not been with a man for about 6/7 years I should have nothing to worry about. I don't really understand about the HPV ... I mean, does it mean that the HPV won't come back again or can it flare up anytime?

The consultant said that he would write to me with the results and include the info about the treatment, which he said from looking at the area would be LEEP. Can doctors really know what they are looking at without the biopsy results? He's also said it will be performed under general, probably coz I was so anxious at the Colposcopy. I got the feeling that his intention was to just get it sorted out as quickly as possible ... (apart from the biopsy results! arrrgghh)

First of all, congratulations on the birth of your new daughter! Secondly, I'm not certain that you're ever 100% out of the woods, once you've contracted HPV. Although it is possible that you could go an entire lifetime without ever actually having an active case of it. Please don't be confused, HPV can also be transmitted through same sex sex. So, whether or not you ever have sex with a man again is completely irrelevent in this case. I'm assuming that the STD screenings that you both underwent were the traditional type blood tests for HPV, HIV, AIDS, Herpes, Hepatitis and Syphillis. An HPV DNA test is not a blood test! I'm still not feeling the love for your doctor and would strongly encourage you ( as well as your partner), to find a more knowledgeable gynocologist or gynoncologist and get the HPV DNA test done immediately. As a matter of fact, I don't think I would, personally, recommend that you have the LEEP done, until I had those results in my hands and consulted with the new doctor. Don't get me wrong, I am not recommending that you put this off, just that you get a second opinion. Something as simple as a yeast infection can cause an abnormal pap result and could also cause some areas to turn white once the vinegar solution is applied during a colposcopy. The HPV DNA test will be much more telling. This doctor may have you all worked up over nothing. Best of luck to you!

Your doc should be able to see 'suspicious' areas w/ the colp but there is absolutely no telling what it is until you get biopsy results. Most definitely should have done HPV screening from your pap sample. That's how mine was done. And you can most definitely transmit HPV and (should be concerned) in a same sex relationship. I had to have a cold knife cone done...just got pathology back and have to have a total hysterectomy in Aug. I know that they say this is a very slow growing disease/cancer but I have to agree that a second opinion should be in order.
Congratulations to you and yours on your precious daughter! My baby girl is 14 now...it goes fast and she's going to need her mom healthy for those oh so fun teenage years! Keep us posted and be well!
