CIN III and scared

0 Recommendations

Hi Everyone,

I am completely new to this site but as soon as I saw the other discussions I knew I had to join and tell my story and ask for advice. I am 25 and have been dealing with abnormal pap smears for years now all caused by HPV. I've gone from low grade to high grade abnormality, have had 5 colposcopies done, 1 cyrosurgery, 1 LEEP and recently was told by my doctor that I have severe dysplasia also known as CIN III and need another LEEP done. When I had the first LEEP done I was seeing a different doc then I am now and it was done in the hospital under general anesthesia but this time I am having it done with my new doc in her office with local anaesthesia and I'm scared because I've read some other postings on this site and it seems horrible to go through. #1 can anyone tell me their experience with a condition like mine? #2 is the LEEP under local anesthesia that bad? #3 has anyone else been going through an ordeal like mine for years?

Thank you for any advice in advance!!!

melonkiss - I and others have posted before that the LEEP under local is not painful. They give you a local injection and you don't feel a thing. The colposcopy hurts more!

you definitely need to see a gynecologic oncologist! since you seem to have persistent or recurring dysplasia, you need and deserve the expertise of a doctor who deals with dysplasia/cancer all the time.

I had a LEEP done just the other day at the dr office and it was not bad - the colposcopy/biopsy was worse! I agree with flowershoplady and you should see a gynecologic oncologist - check with your doctor:) I wish you the best - you are definitely in the right spot for support/advice - everyone here is wonderful!

Hi all,

sorry to hear what you are all going through.. my experience is this and im so scared and confused.. any advice would be great.. I had a pap smear and it came back a CIN III.. I went for a biopsy and the gyno said he was pretty sure it was a CIN III aswell.. my results came back as a CIN I and the doctor said to just come back in 6 months (November 09 ) for another biopsy.. i cant help but think the biopsy was not correct as ... can anyone offer any advise.. im feeling so sick about the whole thing right now xx

Melonkiss: I too am sorry to hear that you are going through what you are going through. The uknown always seems so scary, especially when it involves our body. The only bit of advice that I can give you is to make sure that you are not smoking, and that means not being around second-hand smoke as well, eat lots of healthy foods, take a good multi-vitamine (my ob says that the walmart brand prenatals are awesome!), and start some good exercising. Flowershoplady also gives good advice in a lot of her responses and that is to use condoms during sex even if you are in a mono. relationship because you and your partner can keep passing the virus back-n-forth.

Beeally: I think that you should be happy right now. It sounds like, from what you posted, that your body is putting the HPV to sleep; this is fabulous news! But I am a little confused...I did not know that paps showed displasia. I know that they show cell changes and your OB may have associated the amount of cell changes with what CINlll has, but I am pretty sure that a biopsy needs to be done to find displasia. That right there may be the reason for the discrepancy. Relax, I think your docs may have just spoken too soon that's all. :o)

Melonkiss-

I can relate to what you've been going through. I'm 29 and have been experiencing abnormal paps, colposcopies, LEEPs since I was 24. I had a good span of having normal paps and then the HPV reared its ugly head again. This is a very frustrating health condition and I wish there was more information/awareness on it. I really have felt more relaxed using this website. Bymyside247 offers great advice about not smoking, eating right, and exercising. I also must say that it is very important to stay emotionally healthy as well and keep stress at bay. Emotions rule in the body. I suggest journaling about how you feel about this. Getting it down on paper is truly like an emotional detox instead of carrying it around inside and letting it wreak havoc on your body.

A LEEP under local anesthesia is not painful but I would say that it is uncomfortable. I reserved the whole afternoon after the procedure to lounge around and watch movies. Its been two weeks since my LEEP and I have been recovering nicely. Remember to go by your doctor's recommendations...this is a time for your body to heal and I wouldn't overdo anything.

Hang in there and good luck!

Thank you to everyone for your advice and good wishes, it really has helped me alot!! Thank you again, it's nice to know I'm not alone and that other people know how I feel!!!! :)

Cure it on your own - I did. :) so have other women. I had cin3/cis. And never did leep! I'm now down to a low grade and that will be gone soon too! Good luck and stay positive :)

Hi Everyone,

I had my 2nd LEEP procedure done this past tuesday. The doctor said she would call with results but I am a little confused what the results could possibly be since I was already diagnosed with CIN 3. What results could she possibly call with? cancer?

melonkiss, the leep results are what the results from when the pathologists examinging the tissue that's been removed. i'm guessing that the CIN3 diagnosis was from a biopsy taken during the colposcopy.

ok so when the pathologist examines the tissue that was removed during the LEEP will they possibly discover something else or just the CIN 3 that was found during the colpo? I'm sorry, just confused?

yes, it's possible. when the doctor takes the biopsies during the colposcopy, he hopes to take a representative sample of the tissue. the tissue that is removed during the leep will be examined thoroughly, including the edges to determine if the margins are 'clear' meaning that the dysplasia is fully contained in the tissue removed. since you've been having recurring or persistent dysplasia, i hope the gynecologist who treated you is a gynecologic oncologist? if the leep was done on tuesday, you should have the results on friday - let us know how you're doing, and meanwhile, be sure to take care of yourself so that you heal well.

thank you for the info. my doc is just a gyno, not a gynecologic oncologist. I just hope I get good news but scared of what I might hear because it is recurring.

Hi,

i'm new on this forum but i feel better seeing i'm not alone in the situation i'm in...
so Melonkiss i'm pretty much in the same situation than you. After finding out i had severe dysplasia I had a LEEP done last thursday and now i'm waiting for the results of the biopsy and my gyneco took her day off today and i called the office, they have the results but they cannot tell me what's written on this results, it has to be my gyneco reading it.... this is so frustrating!
I have a question; except telling me if the margins are clear or not, what else can happen? what other bad news could i have to deal with? i'm so stressed not to know...
Thanks already

Hi Elodie,

I have the same question when it comes to the results. This whole process is so confusing and beyond that, very frustrating! I wish I had an answer! Please keep me posted on your situation and I will do the same. Best wishes.

Thanks Melonkiss... Best wishes to you too! i will definitely keep you updated. When are you supposed to get your results?
i have actually one more question for everybody. Since i had a LEEP done 8 days ago, how much longer should i wait before i go back to some physical activities like running or dancing?

Thanks

So another doctor at my gyneco office called me now. The result of the biopsy they did from the LEEP is the same then the result they found before: severe dysplasia, NOT cancer. The margins are not clear though. She said it means that i have to go back for pap smear in 4 to 6 months to see if i still have abnormal cells or not. Apparently it's possible for the body to get rid of these cells while healing from the LEEP.
i feel so relieved to know...
