Chemo & Radiation

0 Recommendations

I am looking for experiences from ladies who opted for chemo and radiation as opposed to hysterectomy.
I'm 33, and want to still try and have children.

Not even sure what stage I am, couldn't see my doc because I changed jobs and had no insurance. Now the new insurance doesn't network with her. So, all I know is "cancer", but I see a gyn onc tomorrow.
Just trying to get prepared for whatever he might tell me!

I'm sorry to hear your news I am sure it is stressful to be waiting. I do not know what your options are, that depends a lot on your stage. But remember there are many options that can include sparing your fertility in some cases. It is always smart to get a second or even third opinion, and it will set your mind at ease.
I am sorry I know that this is not much help, but I wanted you to know someone else was out here.
I am not sure how long you were without the health coverage or what your circumstances are, but I am without Insurance myself right now so I wanted to mention it. There is a program here in Michigan called the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP), which I was under the impression was a federal thing, though I may be wrong. It provides screening for women and helps you with the services if you need treatment. It just doesn't seem right anyone should have to put off screening or treatment because of health insurance.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Let us know how things are going,
Kate

Hi Cas,
I had a hys at 28 due to my CC and do not have any kids. We found my cc because we were trying to get pg for a year with no success. If you would like to talk about what it's like to have a hys and not have any bio kids, I'd love to speak with you. I have an amazing and enriching life and am afforded the opportunity to do things that I never ever ever would have been able to do, had I wound up having children. I have an amazing life and wouldn't change anything for the world. So please know that not having children is not the end of the world - at least it wasn't for me because I knew I was still here for a reason - one greater than being a mom. You can email me directly at shall@nccc-online.org if you would like.
Hugs!
Shaundra

cas9, did a doctor diagnose you with with cancer? i thought that you've just had an abnormal pap indicating agc at this point and you're waiting to have a colposcopy and biopsies? maybe i'm misunderstanding? i would encourage you to take a deep breath....and take one step at a time. if you have cervical dysplasia, you wouldn't need a hysterectomy nor radiation. and, if you do have cancer, the stage will determine your treatment options. if it's an early stage, doctors can provide you with options that maintain your fertility. let us know how your appointment goes!

Flowershoplady - I've already had colp and biopsy. Was scheduled for D&C but had to cancel for insurance reasons. Never talked to my doc, wasn't allowed without an appt, and can't afford $700 for an office visit. The nurse told me "well, you have cancer and the D&C would have removed it" ... after much research, her phrase was just vague and I know she was ticked off that she had to spend time with me on the phone. I see an onc tomorrow, so I'll know something for SURE soon I hope.

Cas, I'm really sorry to hear that....and, sorry....i evidently misunderstood.....and you probably know that a d&c wouldn't remove cervical cancer! glad to hear you're seeing a gynecologic oncologist. i'll be thinking about you.....

thanks flowershop!

I wish you the best. If you have the radiation, it will more than likely kill off your ovaries. It did with mine. I went into menopause at 39. It has its up and downs, but its okay. I hope your appointment goes good. Have they done a PET scan yet?

Appointment went okay. They did another colposcopy and ECC. Worst one I've ever had - so much pain.
The gyn-onc is furious that I was told I had cancer. My AG cells are coming from my uterus. I'm scheduled for D&C in October to see what the actual cause is. He claims while I have some very, very mild dysplasia on my cervix, that is not cause for concern, uterus is the problem.

So, I am relieved and worried at the same time!

No PET or any other scans yet.
