cervical cancer treatment

Someone told me that if my biopsy came back as cancer they won't treat it with conization or leep. Is this true? I thought those are treatments for Cervical Cancer???

When I was originally diagnosed with cerv cancer in 2002, the first procedure I had was a conization. They said it was a larger biopsy in the shape of a cone to see how deep and wide the margins were. I was also told that it was possible that if they were able to get clear margins on the edges of the cone, then I wouldn't need any further treatment because that alone could get all the cancer out. Unfortunately that wasn't true for me, but I think it could be true for others.

That's my 2 cents!
Jodi

I think it may depend on the size and type of the cancer. Mine was too large for cone or LEEP. Mine was small enough to have the trachelectomy surgery though (<2 cm).

Amy

Echoing what Jodi and Amy said, sometimes they are sufficient treatment for small lesions. I had a cone biopsy that determined that mine is only 1mm, but because of the type (adenocarcinoma), more has to be removed.
