cervical and uterine cancer

Wow, this seems to be the place I should have been weeks ago! I am scheduled for a radical hysterectomy next week, and the closer it gets the more nervous I am getting. My concern is the recovery... Just looking for other peoples stories... to help me get through this. Initially I was depressed at losing my fertility..now I am anxious for the symptoms to go away.

You will be ok and sore for some weeks.

Hi, Smurgette603:
I saw your heading "Cervical & Uterine Cancer" & found it interesting.
I am sorry about you having CC at such a young age. As soon as I heard the word cancer, I wanted it out of my body ASAP.
I was diagnosed with cervical & uterine cancer in January 2008. I had the radical hysterectomy followed by chemo/radiaiton because I had Stage 1B2 CC. The uterine cancer was very small tumor & unrelated to the CC.
I was 58 years old at the time & have other health problems so I would expect you would fair better than me. I can say I did pretty well after the surgery. I felt back to normal 8 weeks after the surgery. Ready to work my 10-12 hour days. But I decided to retire since I had to have chemo/radiation. I had worked for 36 years for local county governments so it was time for me to retire even though I left my "dream job."
A few suggestions my nurse friend gave me: Don't eat too many nuts because they can cause constipation. If you do have constipation, drinking hot apple juice or any kind of fruit juice will help you. It may be more comfortable to get into bed by first getting in on your hands & feet like a dog then get into position to lay down.
Hope these help. My thoughts & prayers will be with you.

I was in the hospital for two days after my hysterectomy. Take your pain meds., they really help the first few weeks. They had me up walking the hallways in the hospital the night of my surgery.

I went camping two weeks after my hysterectomy, after they removed the staples. I felt better up moving around. If you sit or lay around, you get stiff.

Have they told you what stage or type of cancer you are dealing with?

Best of luck, you can do this!
