HI Pirkar -- Thanks so much for the research! Very interesting. I wonder what kind of vitamins were used for the vitamin study and whether the type/quality of vitamin makes a difference? Also, the study did note that supplements made a difference in people who were vitamin deficient, so it may make sense to take vitamins for proven deficiencies. I hope people don't equate vitamins from supplements with vitamins from food, because I think there are all sorts of studies that say cancer risk is reduced by eating lots of fresh fruits & vegetables -- which contain many vitamins in just the right proportion to be best utilized by our bodies.

Hi corellin,
I think some articles even claim that while it is established that vitamines (eg C) consumed from food reduce risks, it is not confirmed that taking them in chemical form works the same way. And it is confusing how they are utilized - eg order for your body to utilize beta-carotine from carrots you need to eat carrots with small quantity of fat (eg olive oil). However, if you take supplements, noone knows how much of it is utilized. Also, there are few long-term studies. The best approach is to keep eating fresh veggies and fruits I agree!
