when I had my 1st punch biopsy in the regular gyn's office this happened to me...I wound up in the ER at 4 am on the 3rd day of bleeding because I thought I was going to die from all the blood...

after clotting factors were taken (and a not so pleasant er exam) it was determined that the bleeding would stop on it's own (and it did, 1 day later)

unfortunately, the reason for the bleeding was my cancer...this was over 2 years ago

that bleeding was the scariest thing I've ever had and was the ONLY symptom I ever experienced

how's it going today?

Hi luckylu-

I'm just curious because you're last comment didnt provide much detail. What do you mean that the bleeding from the biopsy was due to cancer?? Did they find cancer in the biopsy results and then told you that was why you were bleeding?? And if so what was the stage of the cancer?? I just want to get some facts and your entire story as well and offer some of my own because I don't want tnsweetness to read your story and get completely freaked out.

Tnsweetness-When I got my biopsy I did not bleed at first but then bled a few days later-some bright red spotting and then bleed brown for about a week and a half. Then it stopped. The results came back showing CIN 11 and I went in for a LEEP. I had the LEEP done on Dec 9th and now have been experiencing symptoms like you are talking about. I have been bleeding bright red blood for about 3 1/2 weeks now. Somedays it is lighter but then it gets heavy then light again-but when I pee sometimes the whole toilet is full of bright red blood. I saw the doc about a week ago and my results from the leep showed that I actually had CIS 111 or carcinoma in situ- which IS cancer but not invasive cancer-the LEEP is suppose to be able to remove it all (I pray). She also said that I was just healing and put some solution on my cervix to stop the bleeding-which worked for about a day then back to bright red bleeding. I will probably go back again next week just to make sure that I am still ok but from what I have been reading everyones body heals differently. Some have no bleeding, some have discharge, and others bleed for up to six weeks. I just wanted to share that with you so you don't automatically assume that you have cancer or are bleeding out of the ordinary. Try to rest, and not stress...I know exactly how you feel and can't stop myself from stressing especially with toilets full of blood. But hang in there...with me. Let me know what your results come back as and if you are going in for the LEEP. Good luck!!!

I also wanted to point out that while CIS is sometimes referred to as stage 0 cancer or non-invasive cancer most gyn-onc's still consider this to be dysplasia since there is no invasion. Cervical cancer is considered cancer when there is invasion. I think it is important for women to know the difference so they don't become frightened thinking they have cancer and possibly make rash and sudden decisions without being fully informed. Even CIS might not progress into cervical cancer but because it is impossible to know who will progress and who won't doctors do need to treat this level of dysplasia. Best wishes.

Hi there when I had my cone biopsy I did bleed and my first period after was crazy.I was soaking through pads and my pants. and passed a clot that was the size of a lime.Called my doctor ,My doctor at the time said this was normal and was surprised that the clot was not bigger than I had described.I think our bodies all respond differently.Could this possibly be that time of the month?? I think as well something as invasive and nerve racking as a biopsy of this kind can trigger a break in ones normal cycle.I am not a doctor but do know when I start stressing sometimes my period will be out of whack.

i had two biopsies done last week and for the first few days, i had a strong metallic/coppery odor and there were some large pieces of brown discharge. since then, it's gone away but now i'm bleeding heavily. i'm supposed to have my period this week so i'm not sure if it could be the start of that or still healing from the biopsies. no fever but i do have cramping in both my abdomen and lower back. is this normal?

Hi. Im not sure if this helps you. I had a cone biopsy on December 12th and I am still bleeding. I bled alot during the first two weeks. I am not bleeding as much now. I did speak to my doctor and he did examine me and he let me know that the bleeding is normal and my cervix was healing very well. I would give it some more time but if your worried you may want to consult with your doctor.

thank you. i think i will call the dr. just to make sure everything is okay.

I had 2 colposcopies before my trachelectomy last year, because the results of the first were inconclusive. The first was performed by my regular ob/gyn, and although he used silver nitrate on the site, I bled enough to soak through tampon, pad and clothes, and run down my legs to my feet and the floor, in a matter of seconds. I also passed a number of blood clots that looked like raw chicken livers. After an hour or so of this I phoned my ob/gyn who had some blood-clotting medication (can't remember the name) delivered to my home. This slowed the bleeding down after an hour or two, and then it was like a normal period for a couple of days. The second was performed by a specialist gynaecologist and he managed to cauterise it sufficiently that it only bled slightly - more of a brownish discharge for a couple of days. The reason for the excessive bleeding (remember this was just a colposcopy, not a proper biopsy) was twofold. Firstly, cancerous tissue is highly vascularised, so there are more blood vessels than in normal tissue. This is why excessive menstrual bleeding is a symptom of cervical cancer. Secondly, I had a baby a month before the colposcopy, and pregnancy also causes extra blood supply to the uterus and cervix. No doubt there can be other causes for excessive bleeding too, so although it can be a sign of cancer, this won't necessarily be the case.

I just found this through a random search on Google.. So I had my colposcopy and biopsy Friday afternoon and I've been bleeding ever since... Not a lot, it's definitely not soaking up a pad but I bleed when I pee.. It's bright red, not like my normal period blood, just wondering if this is normal.. How long is this supposed to go on? The doctor said it may be a day or so but it's definitely been longer than that now. Thanks for all your help!
