Bicornuate uterus with quadruple fibroids and HPV high-risk

0 Recommendations

I am 54 years old with a bicornuate uterus (2 uteri), each with 2 golf-ball size fibroids (4 total), recently diagnosed with high-risk hpv . I've had surgery 30 years ago for endometriosis, and don't know if any remains? I can't say whether HPV is 16 or 18, however, my Dr. wants to do a complete hysterectomy. Is it absolutely necessary? Should I consider trying to shrink the fibroids naturally?

carmen, sorry to hear you're dealing with all this. just being hpv positive doens't indicate that there's a health problem....it's more important to know if you have cervical dysplasia which may need to be addressed/treated. most people with hpv, including high risk hpv strains, do NOT develop cancer nor dysplasa. and hysterectomy is not a first treatment for cervical dysplasia. as for the fibroids, it depends upon what sort of problems they're causing. and, they usually shrink once you're in menopause. i think it's great that you're investigating further and not jumping to hysterectomy and rather, taking a look at options. hysterectomy is majory surgery, and i'm sure that you're particular situation with two uteruses makes it even more complex. and no matter what, be sure to get a second opinion, as you should for any major surgery! i don't have answers for you....but hope this helps. let us know how you're doing!

I truly appreciate the helpful comments. Thank you! My search is on!
