I was diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 1b1. I am almost finished with the treatment, two more weeks of chemo and radiation. I am very worried about how to eat of live after having cancer. I am looking for long term cervical cancer survivors who has changed their eating habits to prevent cancer from coming back. Please help me in changing my life style too. I want the best odd of this cancer not coming back.

I now eat mostly organic, avoid processed foods and high frutose corn syrup. If I can't find or get organic I go natural although natural is not regulated so it might not be all that natural.

I read labels and if there are more than 2 things I cannot pronounce in the ingredient list, I don't buy it.

I really think there is a close link between food additives/chemicals and cancer.

Thank you it's my goliath I was also thinking the same as you. How long have you been in remission? What was your stage? What was you total treatments? Do you take any vitamins or herbs?

My last treatment was June 2008. I was stage 1b2 or 2a depending on who you talked to but with lymph node involvement making it 3b. I had complications with scar tissue pushing on my ureters as well. I think it was 25 external and 6 high dose internal. 4 rounds of chemo.

No vitamins or herbs except a multivitamin. I do not eat trans fats (as much as possible I guess since they are in everything it seems) either.

I actually was just diagnosed with re-occuring...well, it's not in the cervix this time but in the abdominal lymph nodes. 3 of them. So I will be starting up treatment again. They think they have been there all along and just went undetected with the first pet scan. And didn't react well to chemo.

So now I am going to be even more of a food nazi I guess!

its_my_goliath, I am very sorry you are going through a recurrence. I wanted to ask why they only gave you 4 rounds of chem. I am a stage 1b1 my treatment is 25 external radiation and 6 rounds of chemo. I wonder what would change treatment plans.

I missed one b/c I was having kidney issues and my creat levels were bad. I missed the last one b/c my white, red and hemoglobin levels were really low--as in they wanted to admit me. They also thought I was reacting really well to treatment so thought it was ok. I don't know. But it does open me up to be able to receive a little more than I would if I had already had 6 rounds per the max doseages.

Hi there Claper. I am glad to hear you are almost finished your treatment. I am about to start mine on Tuesday and am a little worried, but want it over as soon as possible. I know how worrying it can be, wondering if it is gone for good, especially having been thru all that we have. It's very scary. But the best thing would be everything in moderation, as far as foods go, be careful and steer away from preservatives in food and eat fresh veg and fruits and generally take good care of yourself. Most of all, learning how to live again, without fear of reaccurance and know that all is done to rid you of this horrible thing. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 1b1. Had a radical hysterectomy (leaving ovaries) on 7 Nov. Went well and healing good. Unfortunately my margins were not wide and 1 lymph node was affected, so am now a stage 1b3 and am starting on 25 doses of radiation, 5 chemo and 2 internal radiation as of Tuesday. I'm not good with the whole hospital thing, though getting better. Still get so nervous each time though! Am worried about the side effects and hope the meds help. We are basically in the same boat, not a great boat to be in - but you are not alone and we will be healthy and well again very soon. Sending you much support and hugs from afar. xo

Donna11, thanks for your support. I have to admit that I am not doing that bad on either the chemo or the radiation the only side effect i got for radiation was burning when i pee and they gave me some meds for that. Chemo Is ok, I feel good the day of chemo and two days after, I receive chemo on wed so wed, thru, and fri is good come sat and sun, i am very tired and nauseated and Monday well i am back to my old self again. God bless you while you have your treatment.

Amy, you know what i think. I think what we are doing is being proactive with our lives. I believe that everything you are taking does help with recurrence. I don't believe that there is a magical pill and everything will going away, but we do know keeping our immune system high, eating more fruits and veg's and adding exercise to our life styles can prevent cancer from coming back. Now we can't make everyone change after being diagnosed. You know two men can be diagnosed with lets say lung cancer, after treatment one might choose to stop smoking and change his eating habits and the other will continue to smoke with the some old habits. I think between both of them I could almost bet money that the second guy will have a recurrence. Amy, you are going good and of course prayers a very important.

Donna--I'm curious I never heard of stage 1b3 ? Usually if lymph nodes are involved--even one--you are moved to 3b. Just curious. :)

I read the Secret too.

I am careful about everything I eat. I find that keeping it basic works best. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, I make smoothies, I rarely eat sugar and try to eat a very low fat diet. I take many vitamins and supplements. I drink a lot of water. I can always be found with a water bottle near by. Do not deprive yourself of the things you love. You can still have those things in moderation. I still have my cup of black coffee in the morning and my glass of wine in the evening. So, far so good, I am one year cancer free as of yesterday. (Oh, my cancer team asked me a couple weeks ago to keep a food journal and to keep a list everything I am taking from day to day because I am doing remarkably well)

When did lymph node involvement change stages to a 3 - my oncologist says the stage remains the same....

You can look that up at any cancer staging site, it's considered mestatic to other organs at that point...
