if someone has a abnormal pap does that automatically mean that it is dysplasia? How can a dr. tell exactly what it is without a biospy? just curious. I have a friend that is very worried and Im kinda reaching out for her to ease her mind a bit.

Yes, there are other reasons that could create an abnormal pap result than dysplasia - which is why the colposcopy for a more definitive diagnosis. I'm not sure what her pap result was but sometimes something as simple an infection or inflammation can create an abnormal result. Is your friend scheduled for a colposcopy?

An abnormal pap can occur not only when there is dysplasia but inflammation or infection, or when the person has HPV. Usually she will be asked to return in a few months to do a repeat pap. If she still has an abnormal pap, she will probably need to have a Colposcopy/Biopsy. In the meantime, if she does have HPV now, there are natural supplements and dietary changes she can make to avoid it worstening.
my email is bfly36@live.com i can share what i have been taking.

abnormal paps can be from many things....even having had sex the night before the pap! the results of the pap should be at least somewhat indicative of the what's going on, and then they should have done an hpv test to see if that's the source of the abnormal pap. she should find out the specifics of the results....not just 'abnormal'. hope that helps.

thanks for the replies ladies. She is pregnant and hopefully after she has the baby she will get the biopsy done.... I pray we all heal and be healthy.
